Armand Bayou’s Wildlife Wednesday, September marks the return of the majestic Osprey.

#WildlifeWednesday September marks the return of the osprey to ABNC. Osprey migrate and come to coastal Texas in late September, when the dropping temperatures and shortened day-length cause many fish to begin migration, providing ample food for osprey in the bayou. The osprey of ABNC focus their diet on striped mullet. These fish are abundant, spend most of their life near the surface of the water, and average 10 pounds in size. In order to catch fish, osprey soar 60-80 feet above the water, hovering and searching the water for their next meal. Photos courtesy of Gary Seloff
