A look back at Heritage Park & Museum’s Christmas Homecoming with the Pomeroy and Parks Families.

Throwback: We were full of cheer at our Christmas Homecoming with the Pomeroy and Parks ancestors in attendance. The 1.66 acres that is Heritage Park and Museum was donated by the Pomeroy Family after their parents John and Gertrude passed away. The land was originally purchased by Edward Payson Pomeroy in 1901. Edward married Anna who was an immigrant from Austria. They married in Galveston, Texas and Mr. Pomeroy moved his family to Pasadena after the 1900 Hurricane. The museum and grounds were full of 5 generations of Pomeroy and Parks families. Enjoy these photos!

The majestic tulip tree, a tale of pride and history at the Pomeroy homestead.

Well, Papa John must have been a really good gardener! He was proud of this tree. He loved it. This photo was taken back in 1968 on the grounds of the Pomeroy Homestead. David Pomeroy and his Papa called it a tulip tree, but it’s official name is a Purple Orchid Tree (Bauhinia variegata). Back then, if Papa John Pomeroy said it was a tulip tree, it was a tulip tree. 🤣

A Pasadena founder, the donkey-riding doctor. The tale of Dr. Boyd’s home visits and unconventional payments.

💲 ~~ DID YOU KNOW? ~~ 💲
Dr. Boyd would make house calls to his patients and a lot of times he rode his donkey to their home!! He also took bartered items, such as a flat of strawberries, as payment for his services.🍓

We had family members of Dr. James Monroe Boyd come tour the museum – they came all the way from Yorktown, Texas! Dr. James Monroe Boyd came to Pasadena in 1921 as Pasadena’s first full-time doctor. We have medical instruments and photos of Dr. Boyd on exhibit at the museum for you to enjoy!
