With teamwork, technology, and quick thinking, PPD nabbed a burglar in record time.

Last week, Pasadena P.D. officers responded to a residence regarding a burglary of a habitation. The suspect forced entry into the resident’s garage and caused damage. Once the homeowner confronted the suspect, the suspect fled on foot.

With the assistance of the homeowner and the utilization of PPD drones, officers located the male hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence within minutes and were able to safely place him into custody. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges against the suspect for burglary of a habitation and possession of a controlled substance.

PPD Officer Bobby Keen is taking on retirement after 41 years of service. Congratulations!

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Officer Bobby Keen’s retirement and his tremendous contributions to our community and the Pasadena Police Department over the past 41 years. Throughout his tenure, he has served in several capacities.

Officer Keen served as an Advanced Accident Investigator and Field Training Officer, was a member of the S.W.A.T. team for 18 years, taught Crime Prevention Classes and D.A.R.E. in the Community Services Division, was one of the department’s first bicycle officers, and earned a Master Peace Officer Proficiency License.

Bobby’s impact on the Pasadena community is immeasurable. As he reflected on his memories, he believes his greatest accomplishment was the positive influence he had on the lives of those around him. Bobby explained how grateful he is for the memories he experienced and the purpose he felt while serving his community.

He described his career as “profound” and explained a few things he kept in mind to ensure a successful professional work and personal life balance. First, he recommends always treating everyone as you would want your family to be treated. Second, although it is easy for us to get caught up in the ‘could’ve been and should’ve been’s’, remember to accept whatever the outcome may be, and most importantly, always do the right thing.

We congratulate Bobby on his retirement and wish him well as he spends quality time with his family as they build more memories together in the future.

Intoxicated 🤡 turns a routine traffic stop into a high-speed chase, leading Precinct 8 Deputy A. Self on a wild pursuit through the county.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at approximately 1:07 AM, Precinct 8 Deputy A. Self with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was providing traffic control for a traffic hazard when a passing vehicle failed to maintain a single lane and nearly struck Deputy Gutierrez’s patrol vehicle. Deputy Self attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving recklessly while failing to maintain a single lane multiple times and nearly striking a concrete barrier and other vehicles. Responding units were able to successfully deploy spike strips near Wallisville Rd. The vehicle continued traveling northbound and became disabled at Beltway 8 and Hwy 90. The driver was apprehended and identified as 41 year old Eugenia Letitia Shepherd. While speaking with Shepherd, Deputy Self detected multiple signs of intoxication. PPD cadets dive deep into the intricacies of the Penal Code with Officer J. Garrett navigated through endless pages of Texas law.

As the cadets advance into their 4th week at the police academy, they will persist in delving into the intricacies of the Penal Code under the guidance of Officer J. Garrett. This phase of the academy proves to be meticulous, requiring cadets to navigate through extensive pages of Texas law.

Although every academy instructor exhibits profound expertise and confidence, this segment calls for an instructor’s consistent patience and keen attention to detail. Officer J. Garrett, an Army Veteran with nearly a decade of service at the Pasadena Police Department, is the dedicated individual leading this phase.

Having previously served as a Field Training Officer, SRT member, and Honor Guard member during night shift patrol, Officer Garrett brings a wealth of experience to the academy. As an active SWAT member, he has been an integral part of the academy’s instructional team since 2021.

Officer Garrett’s commitment extends beyond the classroom; he not only imparts knowledge in various classes but actively participates in the cadets’ physical training and defensive tactics. DPPD: Get a designated driver ending the streak.

The #EndTheStreakTX campaign launched by the Deer Park Police Department aims to raise awareness of the high number of traffic fatalities in the state of Texas. The campaign highlights the fact that there hasn’t been a single day without a traffic fatality in Texas since November 7, 2000, urging drivers to be more cautious on the roads. By sharing statistics and promoting safe driving practices, the Deer Park Police Department hopes to reduce the number of traffic accidents and ultimately end the streak of daily fatalities on Texas roads. LPPD joined TxDOT’s Impaired Driving Mobilization for Spring Break.

For upcoming holiday events, the La Porte Police Department (LPPD) will participate in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) program thanks to a grant received from TxDOT.

The targeted waves of enforcement will include

• Spring Break (March 7– March 24, 2024),
• Independence Day (June 21 – July 7, 2024), and
• Labor Day (August 16 – September 2, 2024).

Detective Cooper and Detective Phelan celebrate 25 years of courage, dedication, and service to the Pasadena Police Department.

We want to celebrate two significant milestones involving Detective Cooper and Detective Phelan. Today is their 25th year as police officers with the Pasadena Police Department. Both were classmates in the 49th police academy and graduated in 1999.

After attending college, Detective Cooper joined the United States Coast Guard and served in multiple Enforcement Operations. Upon graduating from the police academy, he worked both day and night shift patrol, and in January 2006, he was assigned to the Burglary and Theft Unit. In 2017, Detective Cooper transferred to Violent Crimes and is currently attached to the ATF Crime Gun Strike Force as a Task Force Officer.

Detective Phelan actively served in the United States Marine Corps prior to attending the police academy. He also worked day and night shift patrol before being assigned to the Juvenile Investigations Division. After leaving this assignment, he served as a canine handler with two partners, Eiko and Rambo. Upon retiring his last K9, he was reassigned to the Family Violence Unit. Precinct 8: They found that little boy that went missing the other day in Minneapolis, MN.

On February 29, 2024 at around 2:30 PM CST, our agency was notified that Noah Johnson had been located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was being evaluated by medical personnel in that city. His mother, Kamilah Johnson, was taken into custody by the Minneapolis Police Department on an active arrest warrant filed by this agency for a felony charge of Child Endangerment, which was filed in the 185th District Court here in Harris County.

On February 8, 2024, an Amber Alert was issued in the Houston area, which was later expanded to a statewide alert, in an attempt to locate Noah. Amber Alerts were later issued in the states of Missouri and Minnesota over the course of the last three weeks as new information on Noah’s possible whereabouts was obtained.

At this time, we can report that Noah is safe and is getting the medical attention he desperately needs. It is unknown at this time if or when he will be brought back to Houston. In addition, Kamilah Johnson is currently in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department awaiting the extradition process back to Harris County.

We would like to thank the many local, state and federal partners who assisted over the last 3 weeks in locating Noah. These partners include:

• Houston, Kansas City and Minneapolis field offices of the FBI
• Kansas City, Missouri Violent Crimes Task Force
• Minneapolis, Minnesota Police Department
• Texas Department of Family Services
• Minnesota Department of Family Services
• Texas Center for the Missing
• Texas DPS Fusion Center
• Texas Rangers

Our goal from the beginning was to make sure Noah received the medical attention he needs and we are thankful he was located today so that this may finally happen.

Celebrating 30 years with the Pasadena CPAAA, Mayor Wagner and Councilman Schoenbein, marking a legacy of community support and dedication.

Last night, we celebrated the Pasadena Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association with the esteemed presence of Mayor Jeff Wagner and Councilman Thomas Schoenbein.

It marked the 30th-year milestone for our C.P.A.A.A., a journey its founding members embarked upon with immense pride and commitment. During the ceremony, we took a moment to recognize the outstanding achievements that have defined their legacy over the years.

In 1995, the C.P.A.A.A. journey began with Class 1, and today, they have become one of the biggest supporters of our department and its employees. Over the years, the C.P.A.A.A. has contributed not only thousands of volunteer hours over three decades but also organized fundraisers to provide valuable equipment to help us better serve our community.

Noteworthy contributions include the purchase of our K9 Malcom in 2018, Drunk Buster Pedal Carts in 2020 for our D.W.I. education program, and, most recently, a Patrol Tactical Drone in 2023 to add to our newly established Drone Unit. Their members have gone above and beyond to ensure the success of more significant community events, such as Trunk or Treat and Officer Santa. Their unwavering commitment is evident as they consistently step up when there is a need and fulfill it.

Through their hundreds of hours of volunteer work working alongside our officers, they have become part of our family. They have participated in search teams for missing persons, offered support during high-profile homicide cases, and even mourned with us during the devastating losses of our own.

Join us in celebrating the incredible journey of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and the invaluable contributions that have shaped our organization’s legacy over the past 30 years. Here’s to many more years of collaboration, support, and shared success!

PPD: Even with no service, your phone can still call 9-1-1.

📱🚨 KNOW YOUR DEVICE 🚨📱

Did you know that phones without service can still call 9-1-1? 📞 Emergency situations can happen when we least expect them, and having a phone to call for help is crucial. But sometimes, our phones can accidentally dial 9-1-1 when we don’t mean to. 😱

To prevent unintentional calls to emergency services, here’s what you can do:

1️⃣ Keep your phone securely stored when you’re not using it.
2️⃣ Lock your phone’s keypad or use a screen lock feature.
3️⃣ Avoid storing your phone in pockets or bags where buttons can get pressed accidentally.
4️⃣ If you have a child or someone who might accidentally call 9-1-1, enable child lock or restrict access to the emergency dial feature.

Remember, 9-1-1 should only be used in a real emergency when immediate assistance is needed. 🆘 Help spread the word and keep our emergency lines open for those who truly need them! 🌟

He stressed the significance of each cadet being vigilant about the placement of their gear, maintaining the cleanliness of their uniform, and upholding a polished overall appearance. This seemingly straightforward task not only enhances their external image but serves as a fundamental method to instill discipline, organization, and prioritization.

Officer Gonzalez maintains high expectations, demanding that each cadet move with purpose and pay meticulous attention to detail, which will assist in the preparation for the responsibilities of a patrol officer post-graduation.

Recognizing the unsung heroes of the Pasadena Police Academy. PPD spotlights Alyssa’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

Rarely do we recognize the police academy employees and the role they provide at the Pasadena Police Department. As a new Police Academy class begins on Monday, we will start to showcase the dedicated staff, detail their roles, and highlight the cadets’ progress for several weeks. We begin by recognizing Alyssa, our Police Academy Coordinator, who has been a valuable employee for 6 years.

Alyssa plays a crucial role in orchestrating all administrative tasks before, during, and after each cadet class. She describes the process as a team effort and that it requires all hands on deck.

Her duties start with the meticulous review of various documents and applications, followed by sending email confirmations to applicants scheduled for the Civil Service Exam. After an applicant passes the interview process, Alyssa schedules medical, fingerprint, and psychiatric evaluation appointments as part of the conditional offer process. While this process can be demanding, Alyssa describes it as both strategic and rewarding.

Alyssa particularly loves the moment when she reaches out to the individuals who successfully passed the full background process and presents the official job offer to them. Witnessing their responses to the offer is her favorite part of the entire process.

The Pasadena Police Department is so grateful to Alyssa for her tireless efforts in ensuring a seamless journey for cadets and staff throughout the academy, from start to finish. Thank you, Alyssa!

Chief Wright announces exciting details for a new Pasadena Police Department Annex and several divisions within.

In Chief Wright’s ongoing efforts to uphold the Pasadena Police Department’s missions to fight crime, provide service to our community, and take care of every employee, he proudly announced exciting details regarding the Police Department Annex Building.
The new development will accommodate various divisions including: community services, property and evidence, code enforcement, as well as city and fire marshals.
This new facility will also allow for the accommodation of growth for two new divisions that have been created to meet the community’s needs: the Digital Intelligence Unit (D.I.U.) and our Community Improvement Coalition.
Currently, D.I.U. is equipped with cutting-edge technology that consists of a real-time crime center that can unify video and data streams from various sources. One prominent feature this Unit maintains is the ability to view multiple video streams simultaneously. As Crime Analysts work together with numerous divisions within the Police Department, we are able to view the video while an Officer is en route to a call, resulting in enhanced situational awareness and officer safety.
Chief Wright’s vision for the Community Improvement Coalition addresses complex issues that require a more long-term response. The city of Pasadena is diligently working to address our most significant problems in the city, and this program will support our efforts.
We eagerly anticipate sharing progress updates on the development of the Annex and the progression and successes of the D.I.U. and Community Improvement Coalition!

PPD’s Susan Clifton retired from the force leaving a legacy of leadership and service. Congratulations!

Several family members, friends, and co-workers (past and present) gathered to celebrate Susan Clifton’s retirement on Friday.
Susan was born and raised in the Houston area and attended Sam Houston State University on a softball scholarship. While she attended college, she worked at the Texas Department of Corrections for nearly five years before she came to the Pasadena Police Department in June of 1989.
Susan’s unwavering resolve propelled her to achieve several promotions, including Sergeant in 1996, Lieutenant in 2004, and Assistant Chief in 2013. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and invested time in several divisions, including patrol, the training academy, internal affairs, special operations, and special investigations. She also played a crucial role in developing and establishing the Domestic Violence Unit when she became a Sergeant.
While achieving professional milestones, her competitive nature guided her to evolve and grow in her personal life. She returned to Sam Houston State University and completed her Masters in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management.
Susan embodies the qualities of a role model and has been instrumental in leading numerous individuals to success. When she began her law enforcement career in the 80’s, there were very few female officers in policing. Despite facing numerous obstacles, she demonstrated remarkable mental and physical fortitude, ultimately paving the way for females in law enforcement.
Her attentive listening, dependability, and caring nature make her a trusted and valued leader and friend. Many people have expressed gratitude for her mentorship and eagerness to help however she could.
Her retirement is a well-earned milestone, and we extend our warmest wishes for the many adventures ahead.

PPD Sergeant Eric Fickessen a legacy of service and dedication has retired to do things on the other side of the badge. Congratulations!

After an incredible journey, Sergeant Eric Fickessen is hanging up his badge! Born in Galveston, TX, and a proud graduate of Dobie High School in 1978, his dream of becoming a police officer was as far back as high school when he shared his dream of joining the Houston Police Department in his senior yearbook.

Upon graduation, he began juggling part-time jobs and full-time studies as he attended San Jacinto College, where he ultimately earned his Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. It was there that fate led him to an advertisement for the Pasadena Police Department, and on June 16, 1980, he began his journey at the police academy.

For the next 10 ½ years, Eric patrolled the Evening Shift, also contributing as a Field Training Officer. Then, in 1990, while balancing duty and education, Eric continued his education by returning to school and earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston. A short time later, in 1991, Eric was promoted to the rank of sergeant, where he embraced diverse roles, including Criminal Investigations, Night Shift and Day Shift supervision, and serving as the SRT sergeant. Transitions continued, leading him to Property Crimes supervision and later to the Internal Affairs/Public Integrity Division.

Of his many accomplishments with our department, Eric played a crucial role in forming the Pasadena Police Patrolman’s Union in 1986, where he proudly holds membership card #4—his dedication to service extended to board membership and a decade as the political PAC Chairman.

Eric’s personal life is equally fulfilling. He and his wife, Mischelle, reside in Pasadena and are proud parents of two daughters working as school teachers in Boerne, TX., and Stanton, TX., respectively. Their joy expands with three grandchildren.
Beyond the badge, Eric’s passions are as diverse as his career—international travel, reading, languages, genealogy, history, politics, weightlifting, Judo, and his latest interest in finance and investing.

As he steps into retirement, Eric looks forward to rediscovering long-dormant interests and savoring a well-deserved break from extra commitments. Congratulations, Eric, on your much-deserved retirement, and we wish you the best as you begin the next chapter in your life.

After 28 Years of exemplary service to PPD the honorable Sergeant Kenneth King flips his retirement card. Congratulations!

After 28 years of dedicated service to the Pasadena Police Department and the citizens of Pasadena, we would like to congratulate Sergeant Kenneth King on his retirement.

Sergeant King began his law enforcement career shortly after he graduated from Deer Park High School in 1979. He worked for the Rusk Police Department and later worked for the Baytown Police Department before joining the Pasadena Police Department in 1995. After graduating from the 45th Modified Police Academy, King went on to work all three patrol shifts, was a K-9 officer, Police Service Officer Supervisor, and most recently, one of three supervisors in our Quality of Life Services Unit.

Sergeant King has received many accolades during his tenure, including three Meritorious Service Awards. In 2003, he received the department’s Distinguished Service Award for pulling a citizen from a vehicle engulfed in flames after a crash, saving her life. In 2007, King responded to a hostage situation, which led to the suspect’s arrest and a peaceful resolution to a volatile situation. In 2002, he observed a vehicle driving erratically at one o’clock in the morning. After conducting a traffic stop, King realized the female driver was nervous and appeared frightened of the male passenger. Throughout the course of his investigation, King discovered that the male had kidnapped the female and had threatened her and her 4-year-old son at their home just three days earlier. These are just a few examples of the great work Sergeant King has performed over his career with our department.

Please join us in congratulating him on a great career and wishing him well during his much-deserved retirement!

On the 11th day of Christmas… Blue Santa sat in his rocking chair, reflecting on the previous events. He was so proud of well everything had come together. Then his phone rang. He had an incoming call from The La Porte Jail. Blue Santa answered the phone with curiosity “hello?” he said.

The Grinch apologized to Blue Santa for the mess he had made. He explained to Blue Santa that for years he has been excluded from Christmas festivities and all he wanted was family and friends to celebrate with. Blue Santa could hear the sincerity in his voice and gave him an idea. “What if you spend Christmas with me, Mrs. Claus and our elves?” Blue Santa asked The Grinch. He couldn’t believe it! The Grinch happily agreed. Blue Santa went down to The La Porte Jail and bonded out The Grinch.

At LPPD On the 9th day of Christmas. Finally, the plan had been refined down to the last detail. Now the big question,

 “what’s the plan?!”

SHOP WITH A COP!
Here’s how it went. Each child was partnered with a cop, jailer, or dispatcher to go on a shopping spree! The children picked out clothes, shoes, toys, personal care items, and so much more.
After the shopping spree, the children were greeted by The Blue Knights, a law enforcement motorcycle club, with some cookies and hot chocolate. They were even able to get on their motorcycles! Everyone had a great time. Christmas joy had been restored!
A special thank you to all those who helped make this event as special La Porte Police Officers Association , La Porte Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association , Blue Knights TX VII , Walmart , and all of the families who participated in our first ever, Shop with a Cop.

LPPD’s prisoner the Grinch has had a change of heart.

On the 10th day of Christmas… The Grinch couldn’t believe it. He could hear laughter and Christmas carols all the way from his cell. “Where did I go wrong?” he thought to himself. Christmas was supposed to be ruined for La Porte but somehow, the citizens were still having a great time. The Grinch sat in his cell angry as can be… Then he became sad. He realized that all he wanted was to be included in the Christmas festivities. He decided he was going to call Blue Santa and apologize for what he did.

On the 7th Day of Christmas…..At the jail, The Grinch was searched but the gifts were no where to be found. He refused to give any information on where he had dumped all of the Christmas gifts and decor. He was booked in the La Porte Jailers and was placed in a cell. The Grinch grinned as he sat in his cell because his mission was accomplished. Christmas was ruined forever… or so he thought.

LPPD caught the Christmas caper, the Grinch’s arrest.

On the 6th day of Christmas… After the families realized their gifts had been stolen, they reported it to the La Porte Police Department. La Porte PD detectives worked diligently alongside of Blue Santa to figure out who could have done such a horrific thing. While at the scene of the crime they found spiderwebs, a horrible stench, and green fur. Immediately, everyone knew who did this…. THE GRINCH!

La Porte Police Officers took The Grinch into custody and drove him down to the La Porte Jail… but not without a fight. We all know who won that one!

How the Grinch stole Christmas. A LPPD cautionary tale of holiday thievery.

On the 5th day of Christmas… And just like that, The Grinch strikes again! He was disgusted by the sight of Christmas cheer and wanted it to go away. So, The Grinch took matters into his own hands. He left his cave and snuck into every house in the city. The Grinch stole every gift in sight. He took down Christmas lights, Christmas trees, ate the left-over cookies and made sure Christmas music could not be heard anywhere. He put everything he could fit in his Santa bag and went on back to his cave to discard it all…. Legend has it, we still don’t know where he dumped all the Christmas gifts.

Constable Sandlin and Precinct 8 spread joy and hope to a Pasadena family.

Constable Sandlin and members of the Precinct 8 Constable’s Office had the pleasure of delivering gifts to a family that are currently residents of Project Joy & Hope in Pasadena. This is the fifth year that we have teamed up with this organization. Project Joy and Hope provides a “home away from home” for seriously ill children, those who have undergone a transplant and children requiring hospice care.

This is something we look forward to each year and our staff is always happy to give back to the community we serve. It’s a blessing for us to do something that brings some joy to children’s lives in the midst of so much sadness and struggle. We’d also like to thank Steve Stanley with Storage Corral and Ramsey Shalabi for their contribution and generosity.

We wish the family happy holidays and we pray for healing for both children.

On the 3rd day of Christmas… What Blue Santa didn’t know is that The Grinch had a plan of his own. The Grinch started his day as usual, cranky and smelly. He refused a shower, after all he took one last week. He had spiders in his teeth, just the way he likes it. His hair? Already perfect. Blue Family Thanksgiving, a Pasadena tradition of unity and generosity.

In 2011, Pasadena Police Officer David Garza and his longtime friend, David Tong, collaborated to provide Thanksgiving meals to 50 families in and around the community. What was believed to be a one-time collaboration blossomed into a yearly event that has become an annual tradition that now provides meals for over 1,000 area families. As the event grew, other agencies were invited and have since become an integral part of what is now known as the Blue Family Thanksgiving Event.

Through generous donations from community partnerships, this year’s meal included a frozen turkey, stuffing, and two sides. Two hundred fifty of these meals went to various homes and shelters throughout Pasadena.

This event was an amazing collaboration of efforts as officers from our department worked alongside the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Houston Police Department, the Pearland Police Department, the Seabrook Police Department – Texas, and numerous other citizen volunteers.

We offer our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this year’s event possible, including David Tong, the Pasadena Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Walmart Pasadena – Shaver St, Starbucks (5510 Spencer Hwy.), who provided coffee and refreshments, The Serrano Insurance Agency LLC who provided a warm breakfast, Chevron Pasadena Refinery, Asian American Peace Officers’ Association (Texas Chapter), Harris County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, and Officer David Garza, who coordinates this event, and the numerous other volunteers who took time out of their day to lend a hand.

PPD caught the murderers who killed 19 year old Nathanial Navarro in Satsuma Park last week. ⚠️

Last week, we posted a video seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a female who was depicted in some surveillance footage our investigators obtained during the course of a homicide investigation at 1001 Satsuma St. (See link below for original post.) Since then, our investigators have worked diligently on all leads in order to bring this case to a successful close. They have since identified all persons involved, and charges of Murder and Tampering with Evidence/Human Corpse have been filed on Jeanette Clifton, Serenity Delgado, and Cruz Martinez.
See the attached press release for additional information.

Press Release: “On Thursday, November 2, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., our dispatch center received a call about a possible shooting at Satsuma Park. The caller reported that a vehicle had crashed at the park, and they heard multiple gunshots. The witness further stated that a male and a female pulled a body out of the vehicle and left it in the park before fleeing on foot. Officers immediately responded to the area where they found the victim, later identified as 19-year-old Nathanial Navarro, who suffered from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Navarro was pronounced deceased on the scene.
During the initial investigation, investigators obtained surveillance footage and posted it to our social media platforms. As a result, Jeanette Lea Clifton, W/F 12/12/04, was identified as the individual in the footage. Clifton voluntarily came to the station to provide a statement. Investigators were then able to obtain corroborating information and subsequent evidence implicating Cruz Isaiah Martinez 1–11M 9/1/()5 as the shooter in this case and Serenity Delgado H/F 3/16/03 as a third suspect.
It was later determined that Clifton, Delgado, and Cruz all conspired to meet with Navarro under the guise of purchasing illicit drugs. Once Navarro arrived in the park, Martinez shot at him while he was still inside his vehicle. Both Delgado and Martinez then removed Navarro from his vehicle and dragged his body several hundred yards to a nearby wooded area.
Charges of Murder and Tampering with Evidence/Human Corpse were filed on Jeanette Lea
Clifton, Cruz Isaiah Martinez, and Serenity Delgado. Booking photos are attached.”
