CHECK OUT OUR NEW LOOK 👀

You might notice that our uniformed officers look a little different now. Pictured below is Officer Nelson wearing our new load bearing vest.

Load bearing vests help better distribute the weight of nearly 30 pounds of equipment so there is less strain on the officer’s hips and lower back. This change was approved under Chief D. Ditrich’s administration and we are excited to see this project come to life!

LPPD joined TxDOT’s Impaired Driving Mobilization for Spring Break.

For upcoming holiday events, the La Porte Police Department (LPPD) will participate in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) program thanks to a grant received from TxDOT.

The targeted waves of enforcement will include

• Spring Break (March 7– March 24, 2024),
• Independence Day (June 21 – July 7, 2024), and
• Labor Day (August 16 – September 2, 2024).

With this grant, additional LPPD officers will be deployed during each of these holiday periods on an overtime basis, to watch for impaired drivers on local roadways. Anyone operating a vehicle and found to be intoxicated will be arrested. Suspected intoxicated drivers who refuse to take a breath test will be the subject of a search warrant and have their blood drawn for blood alcohol level testing.

All of TXDOT’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) campaigns are designed to reduce both motor vehicle accidents and the residual effects incurred by impaired motorists. The programs have consistently been proven to reduce injuries, fatalities, and property damage along major thoroughfares and at high collision/high-density intersections.

Residents are reminded to drive safely and while taking comfort in knowing additional traffic enforcement officers are monitoring local roadways. For more information on the La Porte Police Department’s involvement in the various state S.T.E.P. programs, please contact them at 281-842-3115 and follow them on Facebook at @LaPortePoliceDepartment.

Blue Santa and The Grinch: A Heartwarming Christmas Story

On the 12th day of Christmas… The Grinch enjoyed some time with Blue Santa and his crew. It was truly an extraordinary day. Now he was able to understand why everyone loves Christmas so much. It wasn’t about the gifts or Christmas lights. It was about the time spent with the ones you love most. For the first time ever, The Grinch had a great Christmas.
Suddenly he felt a weird feeling inside, but it was a good feeling. His heart grew three sizes that day. He felt complete.

THE END.

————————————————————————————————————

This short story was created to bring awareness to the Blue Santa program. The Blue Santa program is all about bringing hope and joy to families during the Christmas season. The program provides gifts for children who are residents of La Porte or La Porte ISD students.

LPPD’s Blue Santa’s redemption and the Grinch’s Christmas miracle.

On the 11th day of Christmas… Blue Santa sat in his rocking chair, reflecting on the previous events. He was so proud of well everything had come together. Then his phone rang. He had an incoming call from The La Porte Jail. Blue Santa answered the phone with curiosity “hello?” he said.

The Grinch apologized to Blue Santa for the mess he had made. He explained to Blue Santa that for years he has been excluded from Christmas festivities and all he wanted was family and friends to celebrate with. Blue Santa could hear the sincerity in his voice and gave him an idea. “What if you spend Christmas with me, Mrs. Claus and our elves?” Blue Santa asked The Grinch. He couldn’t believe it! The Grinch happily agreed. Blue Santa went down to The La Porte Jail and bonded out The Grinch.

 “what’s the plan?!”

SHOP WITH A COP!
Here’s how it went. Each child was partnered with a cop, jailer, or dispatcher to go on a shopping spree! The children picked out clothes, shoes, toys, personal care items, and so much more.
After the shopping spree, the children were greeted by The Blue Knights, a law enforcement motorcycle club, with some cookies and hot chocolate. They were even able to get on their motorcycles! Everyone had a great time. Christmas joy had been restored!
A special thank you to all those who helped make this event as special La Porte Police Officers Association , La Porte Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association , Blue Knights TX VII , Walmart , and all of the families who participated in our first ever, Shop with a Cop.

LPPD’s prisoner the Grinch has had a change of heart.

On the 10th day of Christmas… The Grinch couldn’t believe it. He could hear laughter and Christmas carols all the way from his cell. “Where did I go wrong?” he thought to himself. Christmas was supposed to be ruined for La Porte but somehow, the citizens were still having a great time. The Grinch sat in his cell angry as can be… Then he became sad. He realized that all he wanted was to be included in the Christmas festivities. He decided he was going to call Blue Santa and apologize for what he did.

How the Grinch stole Christmas. A LPPD cautionary tale of holiday thievery.

On the 5th day of Christmas… And just like that, The Grinch strikes again! He was disgusted by the sight of Christmas cheer and wanted it to go away. So, The Grinch took matters into his own hands. He left his cave and snuck into every house in the city. The Grinch stole every gift in sight. He took down Christmas lights, Christmas trees, ate the left-over cookies and made sure Christmas music could not be heard anywhere. He put everything he could fit in his Santa bag and went on back to his cave to discard it all…. Legend has it, we still don’t know where he dumped all the Christmas gifts.

He refused a shower, after all he took one last week. He had spiders in his teeth, just the way he likes it. His hair? Already perfect. And just like that, he was ready just in time for his regularly scheduled self-loathing. After words he put together his master plan to steal Christmas. To be continued…..

Build La Porte neighborhood spirit and unity with a block party on National Night Out Tuesday October 3rd.

An easy way to organize a neighborhood block party is to host one on National Night Out – held annually on the first Tuesday in October.

For generations, block parties have served as a way for neighbors to meet each other. Block parties are a fun and easy way to build your neighborhood spirit and unity.

You don’t have to live in a neighborhood of single-family homes to be involved in a block party. Block parties can happen everywhere – in townhouse complexes, apartment buildings, or even in a neighborhood park.

For more information on how to register your NNO block party, send us your request to [email protected] or call Shaye Lister at 281-842-3172 or Sgt. Ron Digby at 281-842-3123.

LPPD has stepped up presence at all LPISD campuses to ensure students’ security.

We hope everyone is starting off the school year on the right foot! You may have noticed an increased amount of officer presence at your school. We are proud to announce that all LPISD campuses will have an officer present during school hours year-round. This includes the high school, junior high, middle school, and elementary schools. While at the schools, the officers will become familiar with the staff and the campus layout, ensure all doors remain locked, engage with the students, and stay visible throughout the day. The top priority of these officers is to ensure the safety of the students and staff members. If you see one of us, feel free to stop and say hello. We’d love to get to know you!
