Reckless driver 18 year old Johnathan Sustaita caused a major accident after leading Precinct 8 Deputy Self on a dangerous high-speed chase.

On August 12, 2024 at approximately 10:32 PM, Precinct 8 Deputy A. Self with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office observed a black Chevrolet Camaro pass her marked patrol vehicle at a high rate of speed. Deputy Self caught up to the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated to speeds exceeding 140 MPH while swerving in and out of traffic. Deputy Self terminated the pursuit due to the high speeds but continued to keep visual of the suspect vehicle. As Deputy Self continued traveling in the direction of the vehicle, she approached a collision involving the suspect vehicle in the 16200 block of the Gulf Freeway. Further investigation revealed the suspect vehicle lost control and struck a brown Ford pickup causing the pickup to rollover. The occupants of the Ford pickup were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The suspect was identified as 18 year old Johnathan Rudy Sustaita.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Evading Arrest/Detention of Vehicle. Sustaita was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where his bond was set at $1,500.
