POLICE BRIEFS****
(all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty)
• On Friday, June 20th, at approximately 6:25PM, an Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of W Main for an observed traffic violation. The Officer contacted the driver told the Officer that he did not have a driver’s license. The Officer conducted a check of the driver through LPPD dispatch and learned he had an ineligible Texas driver’s license and eleven (11) outstanding warrants from Harris County Precinct 3. The driver was taken into custody. The HCDAO was contacted and a charge of Driving While License Invalid – Prior Convictions was accepted.
• On Saturday, June 21st, at approximately 5:19PM, Officers received an alert from Flock Safety regarding a possible stolen vehicle (white Chevy Silverado) traveling north in the 1100 block of S SH 146 frontage. Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at W Adams and SH 146 frontage. The driver of the vehicle was detained and issued his Miranda warning. The driver told Officers two Hispanic males arrived at his house in South Houston in a 4-door Buick and the possible stolen vehicle. Shortly after being picked up, they proceeded to a business located at 909 S 14th, La Porte, where one of the two Hispanic males cut the fence. The driver further stated that once inside the business, he helped hook up a welding machine onto the white Silverado. The trio then met at the Kroger located at 1300 W Fairmont. Once there, the driver said he was told to get in the white Silverado and follow the two Hispanic males. The Officers did see the welding machine being towed by the white Silverado and it was confirmed to be stolen from the business described by the driver of the Silverado. The HCDAO was contacted, and Felony charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Theft were accepted.
• On Sunday, June 22nd, at approximately 2:30AM, an Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an observed traffic violation. The driver and sole occupant appeared to be under the influence of an unknown intoxicant and was ordered out of the vehicle. As the driver was getting out of the car, the Officer observed a black/brown pistol in a holster on the center console. The driver had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and he admitted to consuming alcohol at the Voodoo Hut in Kemah. The driver consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. The loaded sidearm was taken from the vehicle. The HCDAO was contacted and charges of Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon and Driving While Intoxicated were accepted.
