• On Friday, July 4th, at approximately 1:47AM, an Officer and his Field Training Officer (FTO) conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of N 12th Street for a traffic violation. Upon contact, they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant. The driver admitted to consuming five alcoholic drinks but couldn’t recall the name of the bar. He showed signs of intoxication and consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on his performance, he was taken into custody for suspected Driving While Intoxicated. A review of his criminal history revealed two prior DWI convictions. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted a felony charge of DWI – 3rd Offense.
• On Friday, July 4th, at approximately 2:02AM, an Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 8900 block of W Fairmont for an observed traffic violation. The Officer contacted the driver and sole occupant and after explaining the reason for the traffic stop, the Officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The Officer asked the driver if there was any marijuana inside the vehicle, and she replied “yes.” The driver then produced a clear plastic baggie containing a small amount of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. The driver was placed into custody for possession of drug paraphernalia.
• On Saturday, July 5th, at approximately 4:26 AM, Officers were dispatched to 3000 Luella Area, for a possible disturbance. They found a subject banging on the apartment door who refused to speak with them. The resident stated the subject was trying to see his children, who were out of town, and that he frequently causes disturbances at her home. She added that he had been drinking and asked to come in for water, but she refused. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and determined the subject was a danger to himself and others. With no responsible party available, he was taken into custody for Public Intoxication.
• On Saturday, July 5th, at around 9:22PM, an Officer and his FTO conducted a traffic stop in the 3100 block of S Broadway for a traffic violation. Using scene lights, they observed the driver making furtive movements toward the floor and trying to hide himself. Officers ordered him out of the vehicle and detained him. The Officer recognized the driver from past incidents involving firearms and narcotics. The driver admitted he was on probation for a weapons charge and gave consent to search the vehicle. The passenger then informed Officers that the driver had a gun and possibly drugs inside. The driver confirmed a loaded .22-caliber firearm was in the cup holder, which Officers recovered. A records check showed the driver had multiple felony convictions. The Harris County DA’s Office accepted the charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The passenger was released.
• On Sunday, July 6th, at approximately 1:30AM, an Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 10000 block of SH 225 for a vehicle traveling 103 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone. The driver of the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle accident prior to the traffic stop. All three occupants were out of the vehicle when the Officer arrived. Two passengers both confirmed the driver of the vehicle. The Officer spoke to the driver and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He was immediately placed into custody for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. At the jail, the driver consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The HCDAO was contacted and the charge of Driving While Intoxicated was accepted.
• On Tuesday, July 8th, at approximately 8:49 AM, Officers were dispatched to 10806 N P for a trespassing call. They found a white female matching the suspect description near the front door, where a “No Trespassing” sign was posted. The homeowner declined to press charges but requested she be removed from the property. The female stated she was out on bond for Possession of a Controlled Substance and admitted to “hiding out” while walking to her sister’s house. Officers located a clear baggie with a straw and a crystal-like substance nearby. Based on its proximity and other circumstances, she was taken into custody. A search revealed a glass pipe containing a similar substance. She identified it as “a pipe.” The HCDAO accepted a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
• On Wednesday, July 9th, at approximately 9:21 PM, Officers observed two vehicles stopped in a moving lane of traffic on W Main, about 50 feet east of Bay Area Boulevard. A black SUV was behind a white pickup that was occupying two lanes. The SUV driver told Officers the pickup driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel with the engine running and the vehicle still in gear. Officers contacted the pickup driver and immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol. He admitted to drinking three beers but refused Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was taken into custody for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. The HCDAO accepted the charge.
