I Spotted a magnificent female Giant Walking Stick at the 1890s farmhouse! Males are smaller, but these incredible creatures are North America’s largest insect, with females growing up to 7 inches long! They’re masters of disguise, blending perfectly with trees.
Fascinating fact: A female Giant Walking Stick can reproduce without a male through parthenogenesis, creating female clones! And for those bug-squeamish folks, rest easy: they’re super mellow, don’t bite, and are totally silent. They can even drop a leg if threatened and GROW IT BACK! 😉
You’ll often find them munching on the leaves of oak, mesquite, hackberry, grape, and green briar trees. Keep your eyes peeled!
