On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at approximately 4:45 PM, Deputies Cartlidge and Gibson conducted a traffic stop on a black Infiniti in the 500 block of El Dorado Blvd for a moving violation. Upon making contact with the vehicle’s occupant, the deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The driver, later identified as 37 year-old Toddrick Smith of Texas City, was instructed to exit the vehicle. Smith initially refused, rolling up the window and locking the doors, ignoring multiple lawful commands to exit. After some time, Smith unlocked the doors but still refused to step out. Deputies were then compelled to remove him from the vehicle. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted the charge of Interfering with Public Duties against Smith.
Smith was transported to the Harris County Constable Pct. 8 Annex for processing, where it was discovered, he had discarded drug paraphernalia inside the patrol vehicle while being detained. After a thorough search of Smith’s person, he was found to have methamphetamine. Additional charges of Tampering with Evidence and Possession of a Controlled Substance were filed after further consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
