****POLICE BRIEFS****
(all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty)
• On Friday, August 1st, at approximately 4:48PM, an officer initiated a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Underwood for an observed traffic violation. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana. The driver told the officer he had a firearm in the car and that he had placed it in the passenger side floorboard before the stop. The officer asked the driver if there was marijuana inside the vehicle, to which the driver replied “yes.” A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun in the passenger side floorboard and a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The officer also located a burnt cigarette containing marijuana in the center console cup holder. The HCDAO was contacted, and charges of Possession of Marijuana and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon were accepted.
• On Sunday, August 3rd, at approximately 2:13AM, an officer initiated a traffic stop in the 11500 block of SH 225 for an observed traffic violation. The driver was taken into custody for the outstanding Felony warrant.
• On Sunday, August 3rd, at approximately 7:30AM, a female in the La Porte jail had prescription pill bottles in her possession with no identifying information on the bottles. The pills inside the bottles were found to be prescription medication, but the female could not produce any information that the pills were prescribed to her. The bottles showed signs of tampering with the labels. The HCDAO was contacted, and the charge of Possession of Dangerous Drug was accepted.
• On Sunday, August 3rd, at approximately 10:58AM, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Fountain in reference to a disturbance in progress. Officers arrived and met a male subject outside the residence who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The subject stated that he was attempting to gain entry to the residence to see his children. The subject was detained, and officers contacted the reporting party. It was determined that the detained subject was not allowed at the residence because of an ongoing CPS investigation and because the subject had been making threats against the reporting party’s life. The suspect sent multiple text messages showing himself at a store that sells firearms and stating that he was going to purchase a gun and kill the reporting party. After further investigation, officers contacted the HCDAO, and the charge of Class A Terroristic Threats was accepted.
• On Monday, August 4th, at approximately 5:15PM, an officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle in the 11700 block of Spencer for an observed traffic violation. The driver of the CMV had two outstanding Felony warrants out of the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants.
• On Thursday, August 7th, at approximately 4:00AM, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Garfield in reference to a subject trespassing. Officers arrived and saw a blue Chevy truck reversing out of the driveway to the residence. The vehicle continued backing into the roadway despite officers using emergency sirens in an attempt to get the driver’s attention. The driver did eventually stop, and he exited his vehicle. Officers saw the driver stumble as he walked towards them. The driver was identified, and officers observed an open alcoholic beverage in the center console. Officers contacted the reporting party, who told officers she invited the driver to the house but asked him to leave when he started “acting weird” and asked for cocaine. The subject did leave the residence but continued to knock on her door and windows. The driver consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. The HCDAO was contacted, and the charge was accepted.
• The La Porte Animal Shelter will be at minimum staff and operating under modified hours Friday, August 8th, through Sunday, August 10th, as we participate in the MEGA adoption event at NRG. This is a huge event for the shelter, and we hope to be able to adopt out several animals, thereby creating much-needed space at the shelter.
