Reminder that Deer Park received multiple carbon monoxide related fire and EMS calls following hurricane Beryl due to generator use.
Generators must be used outside, in a well-ventilated area, at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents. Exhaust should be directed away from buildings.
Generators used in garages or placed near soffit vents, doors or windows can allow carbon monoxide to accumulate inside the house. Carbon monoxide detectors should be used when running generators.
Carbon monoxide is called the silent or invisible killer because it is colorless and odorless. Signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include shortness of breath, headache, dizziness, nausea, chest pain, confusion and/or weakness.
Call 9-1-1 if you believe you or someone else has been exposed to carbon monoxide.
