Last week marked the start of our first Citizen’s Police Academy of the 2025 calendar year. Like all cadets who pass through any form of our academy, the newest participants received a short lecture about the rules and expectations for the duration of their experience. Citizen cadets were then provided an introduction from our Community Engagement Division, whose members are those responsible for planning and executing this truly immersive event.
Pulling out all the stops for the first guest lecturer, the longest standing officer in the department, as well as the most prolific storyteller, Sgt. James Anderson, came to share a glimpse into the history of our department. CPA members were treated to a thrilling recount of some of the most high-profile serial killer cases to pass through the Pasadena Police Department. Several volunteers even received the opportunity to hold a piece of that history, in the form of an item salvaged from one of those historic crime scenes.
This is just the tip of the iceberg for these citizen cadets! Check back later, as we follow their experience over the next few months, and maybe you will be inspired to step into our shoes and get a glimpse behind the curtain of this fulfilling career!
