Officer Lee Pinon was awarded Officer of the Year by the Cortez/Norris American Legion Post 319. Officer Pinon was selected as Officer of the Year due to his heroic efforts during Hurricane Beryl.
On July 8th, 2024, Officer Pinon was clearing a commercial vehicle that had overturned on the Fred Hartman Bridge due to heavy winds. While crossing the bridge, another commercial vehicle flipped on its side. The driver was hanging half out of the truck- his upper body dangling over the concrete wall, clinging to a yellow cable for dear life. Despite the extremely dangerous conditions including heavy winds, gushing diesel and engine fluids causing for slippery conditions, Officer Pinon managed to pull the driver to safety, ultimately saving the driver’s life.
This well-deserved award is a testament to Officer Pinons strength, bravery and commitment to serving others. This is only one example of Officer Pinon going above and beyond the call of duty. We are proud to have him within our force. Congratulations, Officer Pinon.
