LPPD Police Briefs: drugs, guns, and DWI charges. Stopping crime in La Porte.

****POLICE BRIEFS****

(all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty)

• On Sunday June 1st, at approximately 2:53AM, LPPD Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 11800 block of Spencer Highway for a vehicle lighting violation. During the stop, the officer conducted a probable cause search and located 1.2 grams of ecstasy inside the vehicle as well as a firearm. The Harris County DA’s office was contacted and accepted charges of Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon and Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. The driver was placed into custody and booked into La Porte city jail.

• On Sunday June 1st, at approximately 11:20AM, LPPD Officers were dispatched to State Hwy 225 W/B frontage road between Sens Road and Miller Cut Off for a truck in the ditch. Upon arrival, the driver admitted being the operator of the vehicle and leaving the roadway after looking at his phone. Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, and the driver was placed in custody for suspicion of DWI. While at the La Porte Jail, the driver provided breath specimen of .199 and .201. The Harris County DA’s office was contacted and accepted a charge of driving While intoxicated.

• On Tuesday, June 3rd, at approximately 2:15AM, LPPD Officer stopped a Ford Edge in the 1100 of West Fairmont Pkwy for expired registration. Officer smelled the strong odor of an alcohol beverage, and, after inquiry, the driver advised he was coming from the Chantilly Room night club/bar. Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, and the driver was placed in custody for suspicion of DWI. While at the La Porte Jail, the driver provided breath specimen of .182 and .172. The Harris County DA’s office was contacted and accepted a charge of driving While intoxicated.

• On Wednesday June 4th, at approximately 9:17AM, LPPD Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of State Highway 146 for a signaling violation. During a standard series of questions, the driver admitted there were narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle and driver’s backpack led the Officer to discover: (a) 2.5 grams of a brown powdery substance; (b) another baggie containing .6 grams of a crystal substance; (c) marijuana; and (d) a waxy substance wrapped in foil paper. Following the driver being placed in custody and being transported to the La Porte Jail, the LPPD Special Investigative Unit assisted in the testing the drugs found in the vehicle which revealed one was methamphetamine, the brown powder being heroin, along with the waxy substance also being heroin. The Harris County DA’s office was contacted and accepted a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

• On Friday, June 6th, at approximately 1:36AM, LPPD Officer conducted a traffic stop along the SH 146 frontage road @ Wharton Weems for a moving violation and soon-after detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Driver was shown to have a felony stolen vehicle warrant out of Galveston County, while the passenger had outstanding warrants out of Georgia, and was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Driver was transported to Harris County Jail and passenger was taken to the La Porte jail.

• On Friday, June 6th at approximately 2:12 AM, LPPD officers observed a vehicle stuck in a ditch along South 16th Street near The Moon Bar, with the driver spinning the tires in an attempt to free it; upon seeing officers, the driver exited the vehicle and staggered up the ditch, refused to complete Standard Field Sobriety Tests, and was taken into custody for suspected DWI— a blood warrant was obtained, and the Harris County DA’s Office accepted a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (3rd Offense).
