The City of La Porte Police Department has reopened Spencer Highway between Underwood Road and East Boulevard, but it remains closed between East Boulevard and Luella Boulevard. The evacuated area in La Porte has been reduced, allowing more residents to return, with the affected zone now defined by Willow Springs Bayou, Spencer Highway, Canada Road, and Oakhaven Road/Eagle Run Street. This area is likely to remain evacuated through September 18. The La Porte Fire Department is monitoring an uncontrolled burn from the Energy Transfer pipeline, while air quality assessments are ongoing. Spencer Highway remains closed between East Boulevard and Luella Boulevard. The evacuated area in the city limits of La Porte has been reduced on the west side to allow more residents to return to homes and business. The evacuated area is now bounded by the Willow Springs Bayou (between Fernrock Drive and Somerton Drive), Spencer Highway, Canada Road, and Oakhaven Road/Eagle Run Street, remains evacuated, likely through Wednesday, September 18. (The City of Deer Park has evacuated areas north of Spencer Highway.) The City looks forward to lifting the evacuation as soon as it is safe to do so, once the area is secure. The City of La Porte’s law enforcement continues to perform traffic control duties and will provide increased patrols through impacted areas of the community. The La Porte Fire Department personnel continue to supervise the uncontrolled burn of the Energy Transfer pipeline. Harris County Pollution Control and third-party contractors conducted air monitoring before nearby schools and educational institutions were opened this morning and continue to make evaluations throughout the community.
