Pasadena PD’s new solar trailers are on patrol, keeping our streets safer every day.

Have you ever wondered what those parking lot cameras are for? 🤔

Why do we place them in certain areas? Do they actually help with investigations?

Last week, the Pasadena Police Department received two new solar-powered surveillance trailers. These units are operated by our Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) and serve a mobile role in our Real-Time Crime network. Once members of the DIU complete the setup of these new trailers, they will be strategically deployed in high-traffic areas throughout the city to provide real-time intelligence to patrol officers responding to calls for service.

Similar surveillance trailers that are currently in use have proven instrumental in numerous investigations, including burglaries of motor vehicles, shoplifting incidents, aggravated robberies, and, most notably, a recent homicide at Bubba’s 33. In that case, one of our trailers captured critical footage of the suspect arriving and fleeing the scene, directly aiding detectives in the swift identification and apprehension of the offender.

So, the next time you see one of these in a parking lot or shopping area, know that PPD is working hard to maintain your safety and security!
