The annual breast health event was a tremendous success as attendees surpassed the fundraising goal and ensured patients received top-notch breast healthcare. On June 24th, at The Pasadena Convention Center, over 750 people gathered for the 34th Annual Shrimp Boil sponsored by the Bill and Helen Crowder Foundation. The event was a resounding triumph, serving over 800 delicious meals and benefiting The Rose, a Houston-based breast health organization. It was a day filled with enthusiasm and support for a noble cause.
The crowd was entertained by Emcee Freddy Cruz from Cruz through HTX Podcast, who added an extra spark to the event with his lively remarks. The atmosphere was electric as participants engaged in thrilling live and silent auctions, bidding on unique items and experiences. The generosity displayed by all the attendees was truly incredible, resulting in an outstanding achievement in fundraising.
Thanks to the unwavering support and contributions, the organizers raised an impressive total of $185,000 and counting, with the live auction alone contributing over $35,000. These funds will play a crucial role in The Rose’s mission to provide quality breast healthcare services to uninsured patients, ensuring access to vital care regardless of their financial circumstances.
One of the highlights of this year’s Shrimp Boil was the official welcoming of the fifth mobile mammography coach, “Eva,” into the esteemed “Pink Fleet.” A blessing ceremony was attended by Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner and representatives from various religious congregations in the area. Following the ceremony, the mobile coaches were open for tours, allowing local partners, special guests, and Shrimp Boil attendees to explore the state-of-the-art mobile facilities.
With the addition of the new mobile coach, The Rose is now uniquely equipped to serve more patients in Southeast Texas than any other medical center. This expansion will have a profound impact on the community by extending access to essential breast healthcare services.
The attendees were treated to a mouthwatering feast, featuring 900 pounds of perfectly cooked shrimp, accompanied by a delightful array of sides prepared with meticulous care by Mark Meeker and The Rose Cooking Team. The Cooking Team’s dedication and support over the past two decades have been invaluable in making the Shrimp Boil a truly memorable event.
The Shrimp Boil has a rich history, originating 34 years ago when passionate supporters Marsha and Jim Anderson organized a fundraiser to benefit The Rose. Their dedication and commitment to the cause gave birth to this beloved tradition, which has now become one of Pasadena’s longest-running fundraisers, making a significant impact on the lives of those seeking care at The Rose.
Generous sponsors of the event included the Bill and Helen Crowder Foundation, Southfork Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, Oates Industries, The Blast Bag, Albemarle Foundation, H-E-B, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Sandra Tapia CPA, Houston Methodist, Hoesel Memorial Golf Tournament, Dr. Yasmeen Qureshi, and Buchanan Shaklee.
