PPD Assistant Chief Granados transformed his family’s immigration journey into a legacy of service, blending duty with community connection in Pasadena’s police department.

Meet Assistant Chief Granados: A Career Rooted in Legacy

Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Assistant Chief Raul L. Granados immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of nine. They made Pasadena, Texas, their home, where he spent his childhood, graduating from Sam Rayburn High School in 1995. Seeking career stability, he took the civil service exam and joined the Pasadena Police Department on October 22, 2001, as a member of the 52nd Academy Class.

After graduating, he served on Night Shift Patrol, during which time he participated with auxiliary units, like Bike Patrol and the Special Response Group (SRG). Over the next several years, he gained valuable experience through training, certifications, and assignments in various divisions, including DOT and Narcotics.

On July 9, 2013, Assistant Chief Granados was promoted to Sergeant, returned to Patrol, and helped restructure the Field Training Officer program. He supervised the K-9 and DWI divisions while maintaining SRG duties, and in 2016, he returned to Narcotics as a supervisor. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he transitioned to the Media Relations Office, where he served as a Public Information Officer, providing clear communication with the Pasadena community and expanding our commitment to reaching Spanish-speaking community members.

In February 2025, Assistant Chief Granados promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and returned to his roots as the Night Shift Patrol Commander, and in May, he graduated with honors from the University of Houston–Downtown, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. The accomplishment was made even more meaningful as he shared the graduation weekend with his daughter Jasmine, who also received her Bachelor’s degree from St. Thomas University.

Outside of his professional life, Raul places great importance on family and cherishes the time he spends with his wife, Susi, their daughter, Jasmine, and their son, Raul II. Whether fishing, boating, enjoying sports, or having family game nights, he prioritizes creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

To this day, his father’s story remains a profound source of inspiration: Assistant Chief Granados shared that his father exemplified hard work, humility, and integrity. These virtues, instilled in him from an early age, continue to guide him in all aspects of his life today.
