PPD civilian Police Service Officers dove headfirst into AFIS training, learning the ins and outs of fingerprint identification with lightning speed.

Our newly hired civilian Police Service Officers attended an AFIS class this week as part of their training requirements. AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) is a computer database of fingerprint records that searches and compares them to identify known or unknown fingerprints. Modern AFIS programs are able to search over a billion fingerprint records in a single second.

This is an important part of the criminal justice system and ensures proper identification of people charged with a crime and is a valuable tool for investigators.
