In 1985, Officer David M. Staley passed away after suffering a cardiac event at his home. Officer Staley took part in academy class #18, which graduated in the year 1968. A beloved Field Training Officer and friend, members of the department felt it was important to honor his memory. Officer Joe Tammaro, who Staley had trained as a probationary officer, was a key contributor to facilitating the purchase and dedication of the memorial. While he is no longer with our department, all these years later, Officer Tammaro remains a close friend of the Staley family.
The memorial was originally placed under an oak tree along the east drive of the old police station, which eventually became the location of the new Municipal Courthouse. With the opening of the Pasadena Plaza in front of the Police Station, the department felt this was the perfect time to relocate the marker to a new location, closer to the station.
With the family’s blessing, the memorial stone is now situated under a different oak tree along a walkway in the plaza, where passerbys can bear remembrance to Officer Staley as they come and go from the station.
