A deputy with Pct. 2 Constable Jerry Garcia’s office while on patrol observed a male soliciting from a public roadway while also impeding traffic near the 8000 block of Park Place Blvd and the Gulf Freeway. This area has posed a constant problem with individuals camping underneath the bridge and soliciting drivers passing by. The actions were complaint driven and the deputy needed to address the issue. The male, 43 year old Shawn Bond had been warned on previous occasions for committing the same act. During the interaction with Bond, who was already agitated did not comply with the deputy’s instructions. Instead Bond became irate and resisted detention. Bond, at one point advanced towards the deputy in a threatening manner leaving the deputy no choice but to take action. A struggle to detain Bond ensued. After the brief struggle Bond was detained while additional deputies arrived on scene. The District Attorney’s Office was notified and Bond was charged with Interference with Public Duties. The deputy sustained minor injuries. Bond was not hurt. Bond was taken to the Harris County Jail without further incident.
