On March 15, 2025, at approximately 11:53 PM, Deputy K. Peters conducted a traffic stop in the 10500 block of the Gulf Freeway on a vehicle registered out of Louisiana, for several moving violations. While approaching the vehicle, Precinct 8 Dispatch received a hit that the stopped vehicle was reported stolen out of Livingston Parish in Louisiana. Deputy Peters had to transition his tactics and began the process of a felony stop. At this time, the front passenger exited the vehicle and ran on foot through the parking lot. The driver, who was identified as 25 year old Randy Hanchett out of Glynn, Louisiana, was detained without further incident. Precinct 8 and surrounding agencies searched the area for the passenger but were unable to locate him.
The vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Livingston Parish, Louisiana. Deputy Peters contacted the victim, who knew the driver and passenger, identified as 30 year old Trevor David from Baton Rouge. Through investigation, it was found that David had a Louisiana Pardons and Parole warrant for Dangerous Drugs and a warrant for Felony Theft.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted the charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle on Hanchett and Evading Arrest/Detention on David. Hanchett was booked at the Harris County Joint Processing Center without further incident. David was located the following morning and placed in custody for the Felony warrants without incident. David was booked at the Joint Processing Center where an additional charge of Evading Arrest / Detention was filed.
