***REPEAT OFFENDER ARRESTED BY PRECINCT 8 SCU***
Yesterday afternoon, August 07, 2025, the Precinct 8 Street Crimes Unit was conducting surveillance on a subject who was known to have three active arrest warrants through Harris County. The subject, identified as 28-year-old Jusus Ramiro Benitez, had an open felony warrant for Evading in a Motor Vehicle, misdemeanor warrants for Theft, and an Assault Family Violence warrant. Deputies followed him until marked patrol units arrived to attempt to conduct a traffic stop. When patrol Deputies activated their emergency lights, Mr. Benitez began to evade in the vehicle. At one point, Mr. Benitez fled through the Clear Lake Community Center parking lot, where he threw out narcotics that were later recovered and found to be Cocaine and Methamphetamine. Mr. Benitez then drove off-road, driving down the pedestrian path of Exploration Green where civilians were walking at the time. Mr. Benitez continued down the path until he attempted to drive out between residences and his vehicle became disabled in the mud. Mr. Benitez then fled on foot between residences, where he was finally apprehended. A search of the vehicle Mr. Benitez fled in was conducted and Deputies located approximately 19.7 grams of Methamphetamine in crystal form and 43 Methamphetamine pills, approximately 20 grams of Cocaine, approximately 1.8 ounces of Marijuana, and 9 THC Vapes.
Mr. Benitez was charged with felony Evading Arrest in Motor Vehicle and two felony counts of Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. He was booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center on these charges in addition to the three open warrants. Bonds were later set at just over $93,000 total.
