Retired PPD Officer Steve Fowler traded snow shovels for sunshine, graduating with impressive degrees before serving his community with unwavering dedication for over three decades.

Officer Steve Fowler was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, around the turn of the century. Like any wise man tired of shoveling snow, he eventually made his way to Texas, where he graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls with degrees in Criminal Justice and Exercise Physiology.

In 1983, Officer Fowler joined the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Platoon Sergeant assigned to an M-60E3 machine gun. After four years in the Corps, he brought his discipline and leadership to the Pasadena Police Department, joining the 43rd Pasadena Police Academy in June 1991.

Throughout his 33-year career, Officer Fowler served with dedication and professionalism in the Patrol Division Criminal Investigations Division and ended his career working alongside his first trainee in Logistics. He quickly became a respected leader within the department, earning the admiration of his colleagues. His exceptional work ethic and commitment to service were recognized with numerous accolades, including being named the Most Physically Fit Officer of his academy class (yes, he’s been making the rest of us look bad since day one), receiving the 100 Club Officer of the Year award, and being honored as Officer of the Month five times (probably because six might have seemed excessive). He also earned two Chief’s Citations, a Distinguished Service Award, three Unit Citations, and served as a Field Training Officer for 20 years.

As he enters retirement, Officer Fowler looks forward to spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and sharing his love for baseball by coaching through his church. Though he’s stepping away from active duty, his legacy of service and mentorship will continue to inspire those who worked alongside him.
