Tomorrow’s weather has forced us to postpone PISD’s Big Art Day Event, originally scheduled for Friday March 24th. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, and we realize this outdoor event would not be possible tomorrow.
Please join us on the new date: Friday, April 21st. From 5-8PM.
Juan Mercado and Daniel Bugarin both attended the ABC National Craft Championship in Kissimmee Florida for welding. They were sponsored by Performance Contractors and Burns & McDonell respectively. The competition is held primarily for current employees of various contractors throughout the nation. Our students competed in the Structural welding competition which includes competing in blueprint reading, oxyfuel cutting, fabrication, safety and welding two weld positions. Juan Mercado won 3rd place at the event. It was an amazing opportunity for the guys to meet with contractors and competitors throughout the nation.

Each year, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston Girls Construction Camp is held at the CMEF Performance Verification Center in La Porte, Texas.
The event invites 8th grade girls from many neighboring junior high schools to participate in hands-on construction related activities including carpentry, drywall, engineering, equipment, pipefitting, and safety. It truly is a great learning experience for these young ladies and we are thankful to have students represent Pasadena Independent School District.
Thank you to all of the contractors that participate that make this event a success.
We would like to thank Turner Industries for the generous donation to the Welding program at Pasadena Memorial High School. None of this is possible without the support of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC) and The Construction and Maintenance Education Foundation (CEMF). Rest assured that PMHS Welding students will put these items to good use! #PISDCTE #CTE #CTEAllStars #businesspartnership #NCCER
The Texas Masonry Council has been a great business partner and supporter of CTE in our district. They have donated materials and even spent time in the classroom helping to prepare students for regional and state competitions. Jazmine Rivas is a 2022 Pasadena Independent School District grad and is featured on the TMC website and some of their marketing materials. We appreciate their support and are beyond proud of Jazmine!
Meet Jordan Flores, she is a 10th grader from Tegeler Career Center and also in Mr. Tugwell’s Welding class at Pasadena Memorial High School. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, today, females account for just over five percent of welders. We are proud of Jordan and hope that her success will help increase that percentage of females in the industry. #PISDCTE #CTE #CTEAllStars #welding #femalewelder #womeninconstruction2023
This past weekend, 5 amazing students participated in the annual Space Settlement and Design Competition held at NASA. The competition is designed to simulate the experience of working as members of an industry design team and to provide opportunities for students to develop academic and business skills. The students were part of teams with other students from across the state and country. They stayed overnight at NASA facilities for 2 days designing a lunar habitat suitable for 300+ residents. They were mentored along the way by NASA engineers and scientists. Students got to experience what it’s like being in a real engineering firm where they had to collaborate with a large team to meet a hard deadline. Congrats to (from left to right) Tam Nguyen, Issrael Flores, Jocelyn Gonzalez-Clawson, Jose Chavez, and Sandra Baltazar! “Shaking hands is a valuable tool that I strive to normalize in my students! Everyday I welcome them into the room with a handshake and a personal greeting. So much can be told in a simple handshake. ‘The optimal professional handshake strikes a balance between a forceful grip and a limp noodle.’ Says Laura Acevedo from the Small Business Chronicle. ‘How you shake hands provides subtle nonverbal cues about your personality, attitude, business style and negotiation techniques.’
I have seen my students go from limp noodles/dead fish to firm grasps and looking me in the eye, all with a smile on their faces.”
