Title: Get ready for a roaring and more effective emergency siren system in Deer Park, La Porte, and Pasadena. Starts August 26th at noon today.

NEW SIREN SYSTEM – LIVE TEST SATURDAY, AUGUST 26TH AT NOON.

The first live test of the new outdoor emergency siren system is scheduled to take place this Saturday, August 26th at noon. The sirens have a different alert tone than previous systems and may sound significantly louder to some citizens.

The new siren system includes red lights on top of the pole that strobe during an emergency to alert the Deaf community and citizens who are hard of hearing about an emergency activation.

Siren tests are conducted each Saturday at noon by Deer Park, La Porte and Pasadena.

Deer Park siren tests last for 30 seconds. The sirens will sound for 3 minutes during an actual emergency that requires a shelter in place.

DPPD: Transportation Code Calls for Timely Signal Use: Avoid Late Turns on the Road.

A lot of drivers turn on their turn signals too late, before turning. Transportation Code says to use your turn signal, 100 ft. prior to turn. Here is a tip: If you are preparing to turn, remember to activate your turn signal first, then brake to turn. This will give the drivers behind you sufficient time to slow down and avoid a collision.

Video: Point of View of a 911 Dispatcher

The job of a telecommunicator is complex, public safety specific, highly technical, multi-tasking heavy and bears little resemblance to clerical roles. Telecommunicators answer 9-1-1, non-emergency phones, answer police, fire and EMS radio, provide lifesaving instructions and support other first responders, in addition to many other duties. Duties are often performed simultaneously and require critical decision making under significant stress.
Please join the Deer Park Police Department in recognizing the hard work of our telecommunicators during National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week!
