Two graduates from Pasadena High took a tour down memory lane at Heritage Park & Museum yesterday.
MEMORY MONDAY: โ We had two ladies that grew up in Pasadena and graduated from Pasadena High School. Now, one of the ladies came from Scotland and the other from Cleveland, Texas. ๐In their high school days, they helped to restore and clean one of the houses as a history class project (when the house was at another location). During the tour, they saw paint can rings on the floor and they both knew that was the house that their high school history club worked on for a project!! What do you think about that Memory?๐๐ Too cool!
Published poet Linda Johnson and her daughter stopped by the museum yesterday for a three hour tour.

Pasadena Heritage Park and Museum recognizes Anna Pomeroy for Womenโs History Month.
March is Women’s History Month, and we want to recognize Anna Pomeroy! Anna Louise Kresta moved to Galveston from Austria and married Edward Payson Pomeroy. After the 1900 Hurricane, Anna, Edward, and their son moved to Pasadena. In 1901, they purchased 9 city lots at 204 S. Main Street in Pasadena from John Burnett. Their family helped start the Pasadena Independent School District and the First Baptist Church.
Anna initiated a successful petition campaign in 1928 where she went before the Houston City Council and prevented Houston from Annexing Pasadena. Thank you, Anna, for preserving this great city of Pasadena!

The McMasters and Pomeroy Drilling companyโs driller is on full display at Heritage Park and Museum.
January is a memorable month in Pasadena History!โณ
This month marks the 122nd anniversary of the Spindletop (located in Beaumont, Texas). The Spindletop produced over 100,000 barrels of oil, gushed black gold for nine days, and continued producing oil for a few decades. This geyser was the most powerful of its time and one of the first along the Texas Gulf Coast. Oil production and refining play a major role in our Pasadena economy. When you come to the Heritage Park and Museum, you can see a water well drilling machine that was used by the McMasters and Pomeroy Drilling company. This company drilled over 2,000 water wells all over Texas.

Museum Minute: ๐๐๐ง๐๐ช๐ง๐ฎ ๐พ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ช๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ก๐๐๐ in our Parks and Recreation Department. This Mercury capsule displayed in Pasadena is a mock up and was never used in flight.
March 11, 1978โThe Parks & Recreation Department received a letter from the U.S. Government stating that the โfull scale Mercury capsule with towerโ is on indefinite loan to the City of Pasadena.
**Project Mercury became an official program of NASA on October 7, 1958.
**On May 15-16, 1963, Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper, Jr., completed a 22-orbit mission of 34 ยฝ hours in Faith 7. This was a triumphant conclusion of the Project Mercury Program.
The Mercury Capsule Replica is an exact replica of the spacecraft flown by Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper, Jr. in the 1963 mission. It is a full-scale replica of the original capsule, with a tower, and is on indefinite loan to the City of Pasadena. It is displayed in the City of Pasadena’s Parks and Recreation Department and is a popular attraction for visitors. The replica serves to commemorate the first successful mission of the U.S. manned space program and to educate the public about the history of space exploration.

The Battle of San Jacinto was the ending of Mexico’s control of the northern province of Tejas y Coahuila and the birth of the Republic of Texas. The battle lasted only 18 minutes. Starting around 4 p.m. in the afternoon.
General Sam Houston and the Texas Army led a surprise charge and defeated Mexican President and General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and his Army of Operations on April 21, 1836. During the 18 minutes, General Houston was struck by a bullet in his left ankle. This enabled Santa Anna to disappear.
General Sam Houston ordered a search of the surrounding area to locate any Mexican soldiers who escaped. The day after the battle, Joseph D. Vermillion, Alfred H. Miles, and David Cole found a Mexican private hiding in the tall grass near Vince’s Bayou.
As these men took their captive soldier back to the Texan camp; the captured Mexican soldiers that were held in a makeshift stockade, stood to attention while others cried “El Presidente!”
Santa Anna was presented to Sam Houston and the members of the Texas Army urged him to exact revenge on the Mexican President for his acts committed against Texans at the Battle of Goliad and the Battle of the Alamo. General Sam Houston spared Santa Anna’s life and Santa Anna wrote an order commanding all
Mexican armies to return to Mexico effective immediately.
As the days progressed, officials from Mexico the new Republic of Texas negotiated the Treaty of Veloso. Texas soldiers took Santa Anna to Velasco so he could sign the treaty which recognized the independence of Texas. Texas officials then sent Santa Anna back to Mexico via the United States.

๐๐ก๐๐: Will had built Leora a two room house and their children were old enough to help with the family business of picking strawberries.
๐๐๐๐: The family home was moved to the Pasadena Heritage Park
and Museum.
With each successful strawberry harvest, the two would expanded on the size of their home. They added a kitchen on the back of the house, then built a second story with two bedrooms, and finally a room off of the kitchen. Their home was located on Eleventh Street, which is now Harris Street, but back then it was known as Strawberry Lane.
