Traffic stop by Precinct 8 Deputy K. Peters catches a 🤡 with a solen vehicle, firearm, and dog.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO FELONY ARREST On September 27, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy K. Peters with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was conducting traffic in the 10500 block of the Gulf Freeway when he was flagged down by a citizen who stated they were following their stolen vehicle. Deputy Peters located the vehicle parked at a business. A check of the license plate confirmed it was reported stolen through Houston Police Department. Deputy Peters approached the vehicle and made contact with the suspect driver who was identified as 33 year old Meagan Marie Vargas. Deputy Peters detained Vargas and recovered a stolen handgun from the vehicle as well as a dog that belonged to the victim. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon. Further investigation by Deputy Peters and Sergeant Covey revealed Vargas provided her sister’s date of birth and social security number as her own during the arrest. Deputies learned Vargas has a history of using her sister’s identifying information when encountering law enforcement. The District Attorney’s was contacted and accepted additional charges for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information. Vargas’s bonds were set at a total of $40,000.
