Parks and Recreation tip: Don’t be a crape murderer.
🫣↔️DON’T DO THIS TO YOUR CRAPE MYRTLES!!! The City of Pasadena’s Parks and Landscaping team recommends following Texas A&M Forest Service’s guidelines below. Although many have been struggling because of recent freezes and droughts, if you prune and maintain your crape myrtles properly, they will bloom beautifully!!
Texas A&M Forest Service: “Crape myrtles are a common and beautiful sight in landscapes across Texas. Unfortunately, the practice known as “crape murder” is also a common sore-eyed sight seen this time of year. While winter months are typically a good time to prune trees, crape murder is an incorrect pruning practice that removes the entire top of the tree each year, also known as topping.

Madison Jobe took a journey into the past day tripping to the Heritage Village Museum.
Our day trip to the Heritage Village Museum was an unforgettable journey into the past. Each exhibit, from the schoolhouse to the general store and the blacksmith’s workshop, transported us back to a simpler time. The Clyde Gray House Museum, with its rich history and preserved artifacts, offered a glimpse into the lives of a prominent family who once called it home. It was a day filled with fascinating discoveries and cherished memories.

Journey of the Monarchs: Armand Bayou Associate Environmental Steward Wren, explores a waystation for the Monarchs.
Our new Associate Environmental Steward, Wren Bradley, attended a Monarch Waystation dedication ceremony. The waystation was made possible by Clear Lake Chapter – Native Plant Society of Texas, Texas Department of Transportation, and Port Houston. Check it out on Shoreacres Blvd at SH 146 to learn about the Monarch life cycle and how the waystation provides their needs as they migrate from Mexico to Canada and back. It is especially important to have these pockets of protection in urban areas to help our migratory friends! ABNC’s restored tall-grass prairie is also a certified Monarch Waystation!
Wren is super excited to fulfill the stewardship mission to take care of the three ecoregions ABNC protects. Come be a part of ABNC’s mission by volunteering on our Prairie Fridays and Stewardship Saturdays.

We took 15 4-H leaders on a guided kayak tour of ABNC’s bayou! It was warm, but we had fun seeing all sorts of wildlife. Did you know: during droughts, our normally brackish water can get just as salty as Galveston bay! This actually helps get rid of invasive species like tilapia and water hyacinth.
