SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE LEADS TO THEFT OF FUEL ARREST

On Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at approximately 12:35 AM, Precinct 8 Sergeant Covey with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was dispatched to the 8500 block of Galveston Rd in reference to a possible theft of fuel call. The witness observed a suspicious vehicle parked near the underground fuel tanks at an Exxon while the business was closed. Sergeant Covey located the vehicle and observed it display a fictitious license plate. As Sergeant Covey approached the vehicle, the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The passenger was detained and later identified as 41 year old Giovani Guerra-Soto. Upon further observation, the vehicle contained three tanks attached to hydraulic pumps, PVC pipe and other materials used to pump the fuel. The vehicle had an opening in the floorboard and was parked directly over the diesel fuel tank. Further investigation revealed over 600 gallons of diesel fuel was taken.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for felony Theft. Guerra-Soto was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center and was later released with a bond set $7,500. At the time of arrest, it was noted Guerra-Soto was deported in August 2023.
