The Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees has unanimously appointed Dr. Toni Lopez, the current Deputy Superintendent, as the new Superintendent. She will succeed Dr. DeeAnn Powell, who is retiring but will remain in a role as Superintendent Emeritus until her retirement date. Board President Casey Phelan highlighted the thoughtful selection process guided by Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) consultants, who helped develop a candidate profile based on community input. Dr. Lopez, with 28 years of educational leadership experience in PISD, has a strong track record of fostering effective teams and improving student performance, as evidenced by all six high schools ranking among the best in the US News and World Report during her and her team’s efforts. Phelan emphasized her commitment to empowering students and enhancing educational opportunities.
