Veteran PISD educators paved the way for present teachers, embodying excellence with grace 35+ years of service. Congratulations!

In honor of #Teacher Appreciation Week, Pasadena ISD would like to shed light on the veterans who walked so that present PISD educators could run. With 35 or more years of service, these educators embodied the attitude, essence, and grace of excellence in their education journey, and today, WE celebrate them!📣

Here are some quotes from our favorite veteran teachers to take along the way as you get to know these extraordinary ladies!!☺️

Linda Guerrea
In education for over 50 years, I knew to “always be kind and grateful because the reward is at the end! And remember, always preach before you teach.”

Cecelia Stewart
A clerical aid in art for 35 years has always carried with her “to listen to the kids, and when an you walk out of school, ask yourself, did you help a child today? And don’t forget to spread a little sparkle throughout the day.”

Tammy sawyer
For the last 35 years, kindergarten has been home, with a mindset to “ Always believe that when a child comes into my room, they were placed there for a reason; so as you help students, they also help you grow as an educator.”

Karyn Johnson
Being in education for over 40 years and principal for the 31st year. Principal Johnson always believed that when you “meet the needs of all students, make a difference in the community, and take the time to build relationships through every form of education, especially building special program initiatives or bettering language barriers, that is how you grow as an educator.”

Dobie guide dogs are the best. New pup Rome, will be raised by Vianey.

🐾🧡WE LOVE OUR GUIDE DOGS 🧡🐾

🐕‍🦺Our 16 month old black lab siblings Sunday (raised by Vianey Alanis) and Steiner (raised by Ms. Morris) went back to the California campus via airplane two weeks ago. Those dogs are starting their formal training where they will embark on a 3-4 month long extensive, fast paced, advanced training prior to being paired with a blind person. Once the final testing is complete, the raisers will have the opportunity to return to campus to be reunited with their dog and meet the new handler.

🧡Azalea (who was started by Nayely Huynh) was transferred off campus to another raiser so Nayely could work with her livestock animals.

🐾We welcomed a new 9 week old lab female puppy today! “Rome” who will be raised by Vianey Alanis. Rome won’t be attending classes prior to school being out so she can work on her puppy kindergarten skills.

The Dobie 9 Art Club took a road trip to NASA, where they connected art with space, met professionals, and saw the sunrise at Mission Control.

The Dobie 9 Art Club went on a private tour field trip at the Johnson Space Center NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration campus and explored the many connections between Art and the real world. They met professional graphics artists and video technicians who demonstrated what they did for NASA and how they got to be in their field. They were also up close and personal with space vehicles and watched the sunrise directly on the floor of Mission Control. The winner of the Dobie 9 Patch Design Contest, Isabella Allen, was congratulated and given a large print of her patch as a reward as well as a demonstration on how they might professionally produce her patch in real life! 👩‍🚀🎨
