SIXTH IN THE NATION! What a journey for Rayburn JROTC cadets Genesis Garcia, Angelica Teneyuque, Valerie Mejia, and Andres Chacon-Murillo! Representing Sam Rayburn High School and Pasadena Independent School District at JLAB 2025 and placing 6th nationally out of over 1,700 JROTC programs is a testament to their grit, intellect, and teamwork. And clinching 3rd place overall in the knowledge test? That’s elite-level performance.

The JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl is no ordinary competition—it’s a multi-phase challenge that pushes cadets to excel in leadership, academics, and critical thinking. The top 40 teams make it to the national competition in Washington DC. Making it to the top 40 is already a huge feat, but to outperform every other Texas team and finish in the top 10 nationally? Pasadena High celebrating their CANVASsadors, four pioneering teachers who are transforming learning through innovative technology.

Celebrating Our CANVASsadors!

This year, four proud PHS teachers joined the district wide CANVASsador Program, a initiative launched by Innovation and Development to empower educators as instructional leaders through the Canvas LMS.

At PHS, we’re proud to highlight four teacher trailblazers who have embraced this opportunity not just to grow, but to lead. These educators have taken a bold step to enhance their instructional practices, master tools like Canvas Studio and Canvas Quizzes, and model what it means to use technology with a purpose.

They understand what we believe at Pasadena High:
Technology should never replace a teacher… it should multiply a teacher’s impact.
Canvas is not a shortcut, it’s a tool to engage students, support learning, and amplify what great teachers do best.

We would like to spotlight a great collaboration between our OMEGA and Art department. Today we held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate our art students hard work on completing a mural in the newly launched sensory room. Special thanks to our student creative director, Xavier Rubalcava and his dedicated assistants: Khloe Coronado, Misha Santana, Yanaiza Nino, and Mane Avetisyan. Help bring Judith home. Her inspiring journey from humble classrooms to national recognition.

Judith Goodman’s educational odyssey began in the modest classrooms of South Houston Elementary, where she first discovered her calling for teaching young minds. Her passion and skill quickly became apparent as she helped pioneer the opening of Mae Smythe Elementary, establishing not just classrooms but creating educational environments where children thrived. After three decades of direct classroom impact, Goodman’s expertise was recognized at the district level, where she transitioned to a curriculum specialist role. Yet retirement didn’t diminish her commitment to education; instead, it presented a new chapter. She launched her own consulting business, transforming from a beloved local teacher to a nationally recognized expert who traversed the country sharing her methodologies with eager educators looking to replicate her success.

Educators are the architects of future generations. They hold pencils, chalk, and sometimes our very dreams, shaping minds with patience and love. Judith Goodman has touched countless students’ lives over her 30-year career at Pasadena Independent School District. Her impact extends beyond mere academics; she inspires lifelong learners, empathic citizens, and leaders of tomorrow. Her family is holding a Spaghetti Dinner and Bake Sale this Saturday, April 26th, to raise money for her continued care after she suffered a devastating stroke while visiting friends in Maine. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Eagle pride soared high as past and present united, reminding everyone that Eagle roots run deep and vibrant.

Eagle Pride Never Dies!

During our Eagle Escort Spring Show showcase, we had the honor of welcoming back legendary alumni Sylvia Harden (‘74), Evelyn Stubbs Jackson (‘75), Gayle Bourque Melancon (‘76), and Patti Drake Bodkins (‘76). But the night didn’t just belong to the past, it shined with our current Eagle Escorts, who lit up the stage with spirit, and passion.

We’re proud to share a glimpse of this unforgettable night, a video of the showcase and a moment with the alumni as a reminder that Eagle Pride Never Dies!

February 1st a shooter walked into Memorial High, heroic acts by brave individuals turned chaos into courage, showcasing the power of community in adversity.

Pasadena ISD and the Board of Trustees held a special ceremony on February 25, 2025, to honor the brave individuals who acted heroically during the shooting at Pasadena Memorial High School on February 1, 2025.

The district recognized the courageous actions of several individuals, including Juan Lopez, a Cy-Fair dad and teacher, who initially took down the shooter, and Corey Veazey, an Angleton employee, who assisted in restraining the suspect. Additionally, four dads from Pearland ISD—Abram Trevino, Joe Sanchez, Polo Castillo, and Adam Curow—raced toward the gunfire to help secure the suspect and weapon until police arrived.

The district also honored three HOSA members—Makaylla Talavera, Charles Mitchell, and Jorge Garza—all Pasadena ISD students, who provided immediate medical assistance to gunshot victim Dwight Benjamin, a percussion consultant with Angleton ISD. Their prompt and skilled response was instrumental in stabilizing Benjamin until emergency medical services could take over.

The Pasadena ISD Police and Pasadena Police Department were commended for their seamless cooperation and swift response during the incident. Their coordinated efforts were vital in managing the situation and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

A big thank you to all involved.
