Pasadena, TX – Pasadena ISD is proud to announce that Rogelio Lopez, the district’s Spanish Spelling Bee champion, will represent Pasadena at the national Spanish Spelling Bee competition this week.

To celebrate Rogelio’s outstanding accomplishment and send him off in style, Kendrick Middle School will host a special send-off event on Wednesday, July 9 at 12:00 PM in front of the campus. Students, staff, and community members are invited to attend and cheer on Rogelio as he prepares to compete on the national stage.

“Rogelio’s dedication and hard work have brought pride to our entire district,” said Melissa Messenger, principal of Kendrick Middle School. “This send-off is a way for us to show our support and let him know that his Pasadena ISD family is behind him every step of the way.”

The National Spanish Spelling Bee will take place at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on July 12, 2025, according to the event website. The competition is part of a larger celebration of language, learning, and community, featuring top student spellers from across the nation who have placed in state or regional Spanish spelling bees.
