We would like to spotlight a great collaboration between our OMEGA and Art department. Today we held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate our art students hard work on completing a mural in the newly launched sensory room. We also enjoyed seeing our OMEGA students getting a first look at the room. Special thanks to our student creative director, Xavier Rubalcava and his dedicated assistants: Khloe Coronado, Misha Santana, Yanaiza Nino, and Mane Avetisyan. It’s always great whenever students get to see their creations not only become reality, but also see how it can impact someone else’s life. Way to go Longhorns!
Senior Visual Arts student, Cassandra Perez, of Dobie High School has won the 29th Congressional District Art Competition. Her artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and she will be honored at an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. At yesterday’s local ceremony, hosted by Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, her teacher, Ms. Finley, proudly celebrated this incredible accomplishment with her.

Congratulations to Dobie ECHS students Andrew Ullman, and Jesus Gómez, who are at NCUR 2025 in Pittsburgh. Hosted at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the theme is ‘Engaging Minds. Empowering Students.’ Andrew Ullman will be presenting his research on Applying Machine Learning to Find Pricing Patterns in Chemicals, and Jesus Gómez researched Analyzing Trends and Variations of Nitrogen Dioxide Pollution: Using Data from Pandora Spectrometer, EPA, and OMI sensors.

Last week, the Dobie Bands participated in the UIL Region 19 Band Concert & Sightreading Evaluation while also hosting the three-day event. The 6A Sub Non-Varsity the Dobie 9th Grade Symphonic Winds earned a Sweepstakes with Superior ratings in both Concert and Sightreading. In 6A Non-Varsity, the Dobie Symphonic Band earned a Superior rating in Sightreading, and our 6A Varsity Wind Ensemble earned unanimous Superior ratings in both Concert & Sightreading to complete the coveted UIL Sweepstakes! Congratulations to all our band students!

Dobie Theatre’s production of The SpongeBob musical has garnered two coveted Tommy Tune Awards Finalist spots! Sophia Carbajal, Julianne Garcia, and Abigail Kaydahzinne are finalists for Stage Management and Mr. Hamlin is a finalist for Scenic Design. The Tommy Tune Awards will be June 6 at Theatre Under the Stars.
Dobie senior Max Garza made a hole in one today at Day 1 of the district tournament at Wilderness in Lake Jackson. It was a 204 yard Par 3. Way to go Max!
Our Color Guard delivered a stunning and flawless performance at the State Championship finals this weekend! We finished 5th overall and are proud of their accomplishments.

Today, the Dobie Varsity Guard competed in the Texas Color Guard Circuit East Area Championships, which is the state qualifying event for our activity. We placed 3rd in our round, and WE HAVE ADVANCED TO STATE at Texas A&M’s Reed Arena on 3/29!!! Times are TBD, but should be posted in the next few days.

Dobie’s Nathaniel Belleville and Will Joiner III are meeting with Dr. Powell at the Texas Capitol to discuss public education with state representatives. They are representing students from Pasadena ISD, in collaboration with South Houston High School. Student voices are crucial in shaping the future of education.
Dobie students, Will Joiner III and Nathaniel Belleville, were recognized today as part of the gallery audience on the Senate floor. They also had the opportunity to join Dr. Powell and Dr. McCarley to speak with Senator Carol Alvarado from District 6 and Senator Mayes Middleton from District 11.

Jaxson Canales, a freshman, competed in the 114-pound weight class at the Regional competition and qualified for the State Championship in Powerlifting. He lifted a total of 860 pounds combined in the Bench Press, Squat, and Deadlift. The State Championship will take place on March 22nd in Abilene. Congratulations to Jaxson and his coach, Reginald Rice!

We are proud to announce that 2 of our Dobie visual arts students will be part of this year’s Houston Rodeo Art Auction. They are in the top 0.3% out of 32,000 entries, earning their spot in the 90 lots that will be auctioned off for cash prizes! Fourteen art pieces from our district were selected to go to Auction, Madeline Amaya’s art piece came out being one of the highest from our school district and took home the Class Champion Monochromatic Award.

We are excited to share the results of the recent art competition, highlighting the achievements of our students. The 2025 Rodeo Austin Youth Art Show featured 500 entries across Texas from junior and senior divisions. Notably, Veronica Palacios secured 9th place in the Sculpture category. In the Traditional Senior division, Jocelyn Delgado earned 8th place, and Sophia Gonzalez received Reserve Champion award. All top 20 entries in the Traditional Senior division will move to auction. We thank the art department for their hard work and dedication in nurturing our talented artists.

Coach Joiner’s World History class is studying the Holocaust as part Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week.
On February 2, more than 25 colleges at the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA levels offer scholarships for female flag football. The Houston Texans Girls Flag College Showcase will offer opportunities for girls to hear from prominent women in football, showcase their skills through a pro-style workout and competition, and potentially earn a scholarship to play at the collegiate level.
