✨S O F T B A L L G R A N T $4 , 9 9 3 . 0 0 ✨

Dobie High School’s softball program provides students with the opportunity to participate in a competitive, team-based sport. The program focuses on developing athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Players learn the fundamentals of softball, including pitching, hitting, fielding, and base running. The program also emphasizes physical fitness, discipline, and commitment. Coaches provide guidance and training, helping students improve their skills and understand the game’s strategies. We hope to upgrade and expand our current batting cages since the destruction by Hurricane Beryl. DHS softball program is a great way for students to stay active, make friends, and represent their school.

Last Saturday, Dobie celebrated Steiner’s graduation as a working Guide Dog moving to Cali, while welcoming adorable Alani into the fam.

We welcome one last Longhorn Guide Dog puppy to Dobie, Alani. She is being raised by Lyla Crake. Alani is a female lab/golden mix.

This Saturday we celebrate Steiner (Sunday’s brother), raised by Ms. Morris, who will graduate as a working Guide Dog for a lady who lives in Orange County, California! She lost her vision at the age of 14 and waited for a Guide Dog who can be worked on the right side of her body (which is rare). Steiner will be her 4th Guide Dog 😊

Last week, Dobie welcomed Nate and Noah, two adorable puppies ready to follow in Sunday and Steiner’s paw prints.

We welcome two new puppies to Dobie last week! Nate and Noah. 🐕Fun fact: these two littermates share the same mom as Sunday and Steiner (who were on campus last year!
Nate is raised by Arianna Bermudez.
Noah is raised by Skyler Mendiola.

We congratulate our former National FFA member who recently participated in the National FFA Chorus in Indianapolis two weeks ago, Vianey Alanis. She sang with 80 members across the nation then flew to San Francisco, CA to attend Sunday’s graduation who is now a working guide dog. Some of you may remember Sunday who walked the halls and attended classes last year with Vianey.

The puppies have been working on relieving skills, basic commands, and learning to settle in the kennels. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, they will begin to slowly adjust to classes. GO HORNS!

Dobie High mourns the passing of Marie Flickinger, a fierce champion for the South Belt community.

Today, Dobie High School mourns the loss of a pivotal figure in our community, Marie Flickinger. She was the co-founder of the South Belt-Ellington Leader, a weekly newspaper dedicated to covering local news, including Little League baseball, soccer, and football. Many Dobie High School students were recognized in this publication.

More importantly, Mrs. Flickinger was a staunch advocate for the underdog and for the South Belt community. She actively supported numerous initiatives at Dobie High School and served as a powerful voice whenever the school faced challenges. Her dedication extended to several principals from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and the present. However, perhaps her most significant contribution was ensuring that the South Belt community recognized the achievements of all of Dobie’s feeder schools and highlighted the accomplishments of Dobie High School students in her stories.
