Let the FUN-raising begin! We have officially kicked off the 2025 March of Dimes campaign. 💜 Across our family of hospitals, we have partnered with the March of Dimes (MOD) Houston organization for over 20 years raising funds and awareness to tackle America’s maternal and infant health crisis.
This year’s #MarchForBabies campaign, EVERY STEP COUNTS, is being led by our chief executive officer, Yasmene McDaniel, along with approximately 25 team captains from varying HCA Houston Healthcare facilities. “Having the experiences as NICU and Labor/Delivery nurses, we have seen firsthand the specific healthcare needs for both moms and babies of premature births,” say Amber Bratton and Vanessa Garza, team captains from The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. “It serves as the driving force behind our advocacy and efforts to share the impact of March of Dimes for our patients.”
March of Dimes is our nation’s oldest fundraising organization working to improve the health of moms and babies of premature births. Last year, Houston hosted the largest fundraising March for Babies in the country, bringing in an astonishing $1,625,000 for MOD’s mission. We are proud to help lead the charge to improve the health of moms and babies in our community. Because together, each step forward leads to a healthy future for us all.

Nearly two dozen Pasadena Chamber of Commerce members traveled to the Texas Capitol on Wednesday, February 12 to participate in the inaugural Pasadena Chamber Day in Austin. Representing Pasadena’s dynamic business community, members advocated for legislative issues that create growth and prosperity for Pasadena.
The day began with recognitions from the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate. State Representative Mary Ann Perez, surrounded by other State Representatives who represent parts of Pasadena, (Briscoe Cain, State Senator Carol Alvarado, Dennis Paul, Mayes Middleton) read House Resolution 178 recognizing February 12, 2025 as Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Day, which was adopted by the House. Chamber members were recognized on the House floor and in the gallery.
Senators Mayes Middleton and Carol Alvarado offered comments from the Senate floor recognizing Pasadena Day. Both shared facts and anecdotes about Pasadena’s vital impact on the region, state, and nation.
The afternoon saw Chamber attendees split into four groups for targeted meetings with Pasadena’s local delegation, authors of priority legislation, and committee chairs. Nearly 20 meetings were conducted across the four groups, amplifying the voice of the Chamber throughout the Capitol.
Meetings focused on issues identified by the Pasadena Chamber as legislative priorities. Using the Chamber’s white paper {link white paper} as its guide, members shared personal stories and professional expertise to highlight why these priorities are important to the Pasadena business community.
The day concluded with the Greater Houston Partnership’s Legislative Reception at the Driskill Hotel. This event provided an opportunity for Chamber members to network with legislators, legislative staff, business leaders, and stakeholders from Houston and throughout Texas.
Pasadena Chamber Day in Austin was an incredible success that illustrated the importance of advocacy for the Chamber. The event could not have been possible without the support of partners.
Thank you to Funeraria Del Angel Pasadena, Houston CCS Alliance, Chevron Pasadena Refinery, Clearhope Counseling, and Clark Freight Lines Inc. for their generous support of Pasadena Day as Platinum and Gold sponsors. The Chamber also appreciates its regional partner, Greater Houston Partnership, for hosting Pasadena Chamber members at the legislative reception.

About Project Joy & Hope: Project Joy and Hope (PJH) provides stability and support for families caring for a seriously ill child. PJH creates a compassionate environment where every family member—parents, siblings, and the child—feels nurtured, valued, and cared for. The Pediatric Palliative Care Campus offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the emotional, financial, spiritual, and logistical needs of families facing the challenges of pediatric illness. From personalized case management and peer support to financial assistance and sibling programs, PJH empowers families to stay strong and focus on their child’s well-being. The organization strives to foster resilience, instill hope, and provide lasting stability during the difficult journey of caring for a seriously ill child.
In 2018, PJH completed the development of twelve specially designed homes, providing a safe, supportive living environment for families with children undergoing treatment at the Texas Medical Center. This initiative allows families to remain together and close to their child during extended hospital visits, ensuring they have a home away from home while managing the emotional and logistical challenges of their child’s medical journey. The next year, PJH opened its Pediatric Palliative Care Center, which offers comprehensive, compassionate care designed to address the needs of families. This state-of-the-art center provides personalized case management, sibling support, resident activities, and other critical services, supporting families as they navigate complex healthcare journeys.
PJH serves as a model for pediatric palliative care and is proud to be the first Pediatric Palliative Care Campus in the United States—an achievement of which Pasadena takes great pride. PJH collaborates with leading medical institutions, including Texas Children’s Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, and the UT Fetal Center, to provide supportive care services for families traveling to the Texas Medical Center from all parts of Texas, across the United States, and even abroad. These partnerships enable PJH to offer world-class care, ensuring that families have access to the resources and support they need throughout their child’s treatment.
PJH’s impact extends beyond the physical care it provides. The organization recognizes the importance of emotional and financial support. Volunteers play a critical role, with over 600 individuals donating their time each year to support PJH’s efforts. From assisting families directly to helping at fundraising events, these volunteers form the heart of the organization, ensuring that PJH continues to serve families in need.
PJH also provides grants to families living in the community referred by Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hermann, MD Anderson Pediatric Cancer Center, and Houston Hospice. These grants help alleviate the financial burdens families face while their children receive treatment. Additionally, the Parent Support Line is available 24 hours a day for those who may not need housing but require support during their child’s treatment, transplant preparation, or palliative care journey.
For high school seniors who have lost a sibling or parent, PJH offers scholarships that recognize their outstanding community service despite their personal adversity. To date, PJH has awarded over 1.1 million dollars in scholarships to these resilient students, providing them with an opportunity to continue their education while honoring the memory of their loved ones.
Project Joy and Hope was founded in 2000 by Dr. Jan Wheeler, an educator, inspirational speaker, and passionate advocate for pediatric palliative care in Texas. PJH has become a beacon of hope for those in need, transforming the experience of families caring for a seriously ill child.

Dear Pasadena Community,
The Pasadena Strawberry Festival is just around the corner, and we need your help to make this the best year ever! Every year, the festival brings together thousands of people to celebrate our community, enjoy amazing entertainment, and, of course, indulge in delicious STRAWBERRIES… But none of it would be possible without the dedication of our amazing VOLUNTEERS! We are looking for individuals, families, and groups to join us in making this year’s event unforgettable. Whether you can lend a hand with setup, assist vendors, help with activities, or keep the festival running smoothly, there’s a place for you on our team! By volunteering, you’ll not only be part of a Pasadena tradition but also make a real impact on our community. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new friends, give back to your community, and have a blast while doing it!
