Precinct 8 Deputies Gossett and Nixon’s traffic stop turned into a lot more than just an expired registration.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST

On Sunday, March 31, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputies Gossett and Nixon with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired registration in the 4300 block of S Shaver St. A check of the registration revealed it was expired as of November 2022. Deputies approached the vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver was identified as 30 year old Christopher Daniel Luis.

Deputies proceeded to conduct a probable cause based search of the vehicle and located a handgun, 3.3 grams of marijuana and $1,543 in U.S. currency. A further search of the vehicle yielded 12 -1 pint bottles containing promethazine with codeine. Deputy Rabago and his K-9 partner Max arrived to assist in the investigation and positively alerted on the contraband.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Unlawful Carry of Weapon. Luis was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where his bond was set at $10,000. The Asset Forfeiture division was contacted and accepted the seizure of the U.S. currency.
