Two outstanding DPPD members were honored at the Cortez/Norris American Legion Post 319 Awards Ceremony. Congratulations!

On 10/28/2023, the Cortez/Norris American Legion Post 319 held a dinner and awards ceremony for two outstanding members of the Deer Park Police Department.

Officer Travis Potter was the award recipient Deer Park Police Department Officer of the Year. Over the last year, Potter received a nomination for the Deer Park Police Department Life Saving award, stemming from a female that was having a medical emergency. Because of Potter’s quick efforts and life saving measures, the female victim was revived and later recovered. In addition, Potter serves as a Crime Scene Officer, Field Training Officer and member of the SRG (Special Response Group). Potter serves with sound judgement and responsibility, and can be found with a smile on his face more times than not. Congratulations to Officer Potter.

Deer Park Crossing Guard Mike Cheney was the award recipient for Deer Park Police Department Crossing Guard of the Year. Mike has been working as a School Crossing Guard since January 2017. Mike is committed to ensuring the safety of the children under his care. Mike is reliable and rarely needs coverage at his site and consistently helps with other city related functions such as fun runs and parades. Mike’s efforts and his seriousness about his job are greatly appreciated by both the school district and police department. Mike’s dedication to his job and students serves as a positive reflection on himself and the Deer Park Police Department.
