Veterans’ bravery takes center stage at American Legion Post 521’s Purple Heart ceremony.

On August 8, American Legion Edward H. White II Post 521 was honored to host a Purple Heart Ceremony recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation’s wounded Veterans.
The Purple Heart is one of our country’s most meaningful military honors. It is awarded to service members who were wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving our nation. It represents sacrifice that extends far beyond the moment of injury—affecting families, friends, communities, and generations to come.
Events like this matter because they give our community an opportunity to pause, remember, and ensure that the service and sacrifice of our wounded Veterans are never forgotten. Their courage helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today, and their legacy continues to inspire those who will serve tomorrow.
We are grateful to Mayor Thomas Schoenbein for taking the time to attend and support this important event. Special thanks to the ladies of our American Legion Auxiliary Unit 521 for the care, time, and effort they put into making the ceremony meaningful, and to our community members for standing with us in support.
Most importantly, we extend our deepest respect and gratitude to all Veterans—especially those wounded in the line of duty. Your sacrifice is seen, remembered, and sincerely appreciated.
Respectfully,
Commander Louis Lerma
