What a great night at the 2026 Golden Acres Neighborhood Association National Night Out Event at the Silver Sycamore Event Venue in our neighborhood of Pasadena!
The Post and Auxiliary members volunteered as part of our community service program within our community, donated 100 hot dogs and served them with nachos, sodas and ice scream bars to the visitors of the event.
We conducted a membership drive at the event and signed up a total of 10 new members, 6 for the Post, 2 for the Auxiliary and 2 for the SAL!

More than 81,000 Americans remain missing from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf War and other conflicts. The American Legion remains committed to achieving a full accounting of all U.S. servicemembers from all war eras who are either imprisoned or listed as missing in action.

As part of this commitment, the Legion encourages a return of living POWs, repatriation of the remains of the fallen from war zones abroad, or a determination through convincing evidence that neither is possible. This is further backed through Resolution 22: https://archive.legion.org/node/533.

The American Legion Post 521 is a proud community partner with Pasadena Independent School District in sponsoring High School Juniors to attend the American Legions Texas Boys State in Austin, Texas every summer. This past summer our Post sent 9 boys to this great one-week program. Each year, over 1,100 rising High School Senior young men are provided an opportunity to develop leadership skills in a fast-paced, energetic program unlike any other that exists in our state! The 9 Boys were from the following: 3 from Pasadena Memorial HS; 2 from Sam Rayburn HS; 2 from CTHS; 1 from Pasadena HS; 1 from Frank Dobie HS.

On August 8, American Legion Edward H. White II Post 521 was honored to host a Purple Heart Ceremony recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation’s wounded Veterans.
The Purple Heart is one of our country’s most meaningful military honors. It is awarded to service members who were wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving our nation. It represents sacrifice that extends far beyond the moment of injury—affecting families, friends, communities, and generations to come.
Events like this matter because they give our community an opportunity to pause, remember, and ensure that the service and sacrifice of our wounded Veterans are never forgotten. Their courage helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today, and their legacy continues to inspire those who will serve tomorrow.
We are grateful to Mayor Thomas Schoenbein for taking the time to attend and support this important event. The 9 Delegates sponsored by our Post from 5 Pasadena ISD high schools are among the 1000+ students in Texas that are spending this week in Austin learning first hand how our government works. The American Legion has organized this hands-on experience which form mock political parties (not current parties), choose delegates, learn to give speeches as they run for office. Over a thousand boys, 17-18 year olds, housed, fed, organized and productive for 5 full days.

🇺🇸 Congratulations to Our 2026 Texas Boys State Delegates! 🇺🇸

This week, a group of outstanding young men from Pasadena Independent School District, CTHS Pasadena ISD, Sam Rayburn High School, Pasadena Memorial High School – Pasadena ISD, and Dobie High School departed to attend the prestigious American Legion Department of Texas Boys State program.

Boys State is one of the most respected and selective leadership and citizenship programs in the nation. Students are nominated based on their leadership ability, character, academic achievement, service to their school and community, and potential to become future leaders. During the program, delegates don’t simply learn about government—they actively participate in it by creating and operating their own city, county, and state governments, running campaigns, debating issues, and electing leaders.

For nearly a century, The American Legion has sponsored Boys State to develop civic leadership, strengthen citizenship, and inspire young Americans to become engaged members of their communities. The program challenges participants to understand not only their rights as citizens, but also their responsibilities to their neighbors, state, and nation.

American Legion Post 521 is proud to help identify, sponsor, and support these exceptional students as they take part in an experience that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. The leadership skills, confidence, teamwork, and civic understanding they gain will help shape not only their futures but also the future of our Pasadena and La Porte communities.

The American Legion Post 521 & American Legion Auxiliary Unit 521, Pasadena, Tx had a great crowd at the Boy State & Girl State Citizens recognition ceremony! Our special guests were the City of Pasadena Mayor Thomas Schoenbein and staff representatives from State Representative Mary Ann Perez’s office, and Harris County Pct. 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia’s office. The citizens were each presented medallions and certificates of recognition from the Post and Unit and from each of the state and county offices. Mayor Schoenbein shared a great message of encouragement and appreciation with the students and thanked their parents for the support of their children. Americanism Chairman Debbie Igleheart presented medallions and gift cards to the Units two State Americanism Essay Contest winners.
Thanks to Post 521 Boys State Chairman Raul Camarillo Jr and Unit 521 Girls State Chairman Carol Fleury for all their hard work in making this program a great success!

In recognition of The American Legion’s 90th birthday in 2009, the Senate and House of Representatives passed a resolution designating Sept. 16 as #AmericanLegionDay.
⁠The measure was shepherded through the Senate by then-Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, who praised the Legion for its continued aid to wounded veterans and military families, legacy of community volunteerism and significant role in establishing important national legislation.

Honoring Our RED, WHITE & BLUE — and Army Green!
On August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was officially recognized by an Act of Congress, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. This legislation established Flag Day as a nationwide observance, encouraging all Americans to proudly display the flag and participate in ceremonies honoring its significance.
On June 14th, Pasadena American Legion Post 521 proudly observed Flag Day with a meaningful ceremony led by our Post Commander, Gordon Reed.
We were honored to welcome Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia as our special guest and speaker. Adding to the patriotic spirit, Mr. Joseph Horton, Assistant Principal of South Houston High School, gave a stirring performance of the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful.”
This year, Flag Day held even greater significance as it coincided with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army. Our Post also celebrated this monumental milestone, paying tribute to generations of brave men and women who have answered the call to serve—those who defended our freedom and those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep America safe, sovereign, and free.
This special day served as a powerful reminder of the history, symbolism, and pride embodied in the American flag—a flag we fly boldly to represent liberty, unity, and the enduring spirit of our nation.
