SUBJECT FACES MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES FOLLOWING PURSUIT
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy K. Peters with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 10800 block of the Gulf Freeway for failing to signal lane change. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle turned off its headlights and accelerated to a high rate of speed while running several red lights and stop signs. The pursuit continued for over 34 miles before responding units were able to successfully deploy spike strips and disable the vehicle. As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver exited the vehicle and began to evade on foot. Deputy Peters gave chase and utilized his Taser to safely subdue the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and identified as 47 year old Jesse Ian Mayne. A check of Mayne’s information revealed an extensive criminal record.
Through investigation, Deputies learned Mayne ate methamphetamine before he was taken into custody in attempt to hide evidence. Mayne further stated the vehicle was stolen. Mayne was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where Deputies later located 1.49 grams of methamphetamine on his person. Deputy Peters was able to track the stolen vehicle to a car dealership and upon further investigation, confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen from DriveTime dealership.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted multiple felony charges for Evading/Arrest Detention with Vehicle, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Auto Theft. Mayne’s bonds were set at $180,000 total.
