Memorial High Senior soccer sensation Emily Shines as starting kicker, leading Mavs to victory over Rayburn.

Pasadena Memorial (PMHS) senior soccer sensation Emily Chavez stepped up to the plate as the starting kicker last week against Sam Rayburn. During the game, Chavez scored two extra points and kicked a 27-yard field goal for the Mavericks, helping lead them to a 50-point victory over Sam Rayburn.

Open tryouts were held after PMHS’s starting kicker was sidelined due to an injury. Chavez took this opportunity to showcase her versatility and earned a spot on the team.

“I took it upon myself to put the extra effort in and see what I could do,” Chavez said.

Chavez humbly credits her success to her dedicated kicking coach and her soccer coach and parents, who have been sources of inspiration throughout this unique journey. She wants to encourage other girls out there to follow their passions and not be afraid to try new things, demonstrating that anyone can achieve their goals with determination and dedication.
