STOLEN VEHICLE LEADS DEPUTY ON PURSUIT

On January 14, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy Muschweck with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office observed a blue Chevy SUV displaying an expired registration. A further check of the registration revealed the license plate returned to a tan GMC. Deputy Muschweck attempted to initiate a traffic stop at Frey Rd near Gilpin St and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle stopped in the 10100 block of Hinds St where the driver exited the vehicle and fled inside the residence.

Additional units arrived on scene and immediately established a perimeter around the residence. Deputies ultimately removed multiple occupants from the residence including the suspect. The suspect was identified as 41 year old Joseph Patrick Slater. A further check of the vehicle’s VIN revealed it was reported stolen through Houston Police Department. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located 19 pieces of identifying information including driver’s licenses, identification cards and debit/credit cards.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted felony charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of Vehicle. Charges for Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information were declined. Slater was transported to the Harris Count Joint Processing Center where his bonds were set at $10,000 total.
