Wesley Speights’ legendary career as a sports trainer spanned over five decades, leaving an indelible mark on the athletes he served.

Wesley Speights began his sports training journey as the team manager at South Houston Intermediate, later transitioning to football as a kicker at South Houston High. Under the mentorship of coaches Robinson and Perry, he became a student trainer, Houston Independent School District sideline assistant, and part-time trainer for the Rice Owls. Speights made history as Abilene Christian University’s first full-time professional trainer, with notable achievements, including a bowl game victory in 1976, leading to induction into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame. Internationally, he served as the sports trainer for the USA Junior Track and Field Team in 1980, followed by diverse roles in Houston, catering to NBA teams, ice hockey and soccer teams, tennis luminaires, and even partnering with Cirque De Soleil. Retiring in 2019 after a remarkable 54-year career, Speights leaves behind a legacy defined by professionalism, versatility, and unwavering dedication to the athletes he served.
