Donnie Brogna was a standout athlete at South Houston High School, excelling in football, track, and baseball. Renowned for his versatility on the football field, he transitioned to quarterback in his senior year, leading the Trojans to their first postseason appearance in 1967. His exceptional performance earned him recognition as the Houston Chronicle’s “Back of the Week” for the second time that season. Beyond football, Brogna secured regional titles and district honors in track and baseball. Continuing his athletic journey at Rice University on a baseball scholarship, Brogna made significant contributions as a pitcher and outfielder. Even in retirement, he found success in golf, receiving multiple holes-in-one.
