Video: After a lunar adventure, astronaut Alan Shepard treated himself to a haircut, gifting his barber a lunar golf ball souvenir. Learn the inside story from Barbara Radnofsky and Ed Supkis today at 5:30pm.
In 1971, astronaut Alan Shepard returned from the moon and after being released from quarantine, immediately went to get a haircut. He gave his barber, Carlos Villagomez, an autographed golf ball. During his Apollo 14 moonwalk just days earlier, Shepard had conducted a world-famous demonstration of gravity by hitting a golf ball on the moon. Was the golf ball he gave to Mr. Villagomez on the moon? What prompted him to give the unique gift to his barber? Learn the inside story from Barbara Radnofsky and Ed Supkis, whose parents worked in the Crew Systems Division at NASA during the Apollo missions. The event begins 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 14 at Central Library. See the book trailer:

Meet inmate Rocky, an adoptable charming dog who loves rolling in the grass, making friends at the park, and spreading joy wherever he goes.
Rocky has brought a ton of love into his foster home. Check out what they said about him:
“Rocky is a sweet, affectionate, friendly, and playful dog! He’s a quiet, laid back, and a well behaved pup that is house broken. He also gets along well with other dogs at the dog park.
He loves to chill in the yard and roll around in grass. He enjoys his walks, but could use a bit more leash training when first walking. Once he’s tired out a little he walks fairly well. This sweet dog deserves a loving forever home!”

Baird and I came into the shelter together. Though we weren’t bonded, we were two pees in a pod. I’m happy for Baird but scared for me. Scared that I won’t get a second chance.

Barbara and Ed invite you to explore their remarkable connections to early space travel January 14th at Central Library.
Authors Barbara Radnofsky and Ed Supkis both grew up amongst family friends who worked in the NASA Crew Systems Division in the 1960s and 70s. In fact, Barbara’s father was chief of the division and was part of the team locked in a room with the same materials on board Apollo 13 to help the astronauts fix the problem with carbon dioxide scrubbers depicted in the movie.
Come and hear from them about early space travel with a focus on family and friends, especially the friendship between Alan Shepard and close family friend and barber Carlos Villagomez and the golf ball the astronaut gave him immediately after hitting a ball on the moon and returning to earth. Join us at the Central Library (1201 Jeff Ginn Memorial Dr.) on Tuesday, January 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Video: Nine adorable Rottweiler-mix puppies were discovered abandoned near a dumpster, and they need fosters or rescues to thrive.
PLEASE SHARE: FOSTERS OR RESCUES NEEDED FOR 9 DUMPED PUPPIES
These Rottweiler mixed puppies were found in a box next to a dumpster by the police department.
At only 3 weeks old, these babies are very fragile and without fully developed immune systems, they’re at serious risk in the shelter.
➡️ If you foster, we will provide everything you need to bottle feed and to take care of them. Fostering could be the difference between life and loss for these pups.
Can you help these babies have a fighting chance at life? Time is running out, and without immediate help, we could lose these precious lives.

Video: Puppies, possibly chihuahua mixes, dropped off at the Animal Shelter need fosters or adopters to heal and thrive.
Community we need your help.
5 very young pups were brought to us today. It was stated by the finder that they were found near Hwy 225 in our city. It appears that these babies have already suffered so much at such a young age. They are dehydrated, positive for hookworms and sores all over their little bodies. These babies need a hero. Our medical team has started treatments. This is no place for such young puppies, they are in need of a foster, rescue or an adopter that is able to provide the medical and TLC that they need. Please share, together we can give them a better future.
*They seem to be a smaller breed. Maybe chihuahua mixes. Too young to tell without knowing mom. Estimated 5 weeks old.
