On Friday, October 20th students visited the Spanish speaking TV channel Univision Houston. We had a wonderful time!

Ms. Jessica Mendoza, the community empowerment coordinator, welcomed us and gave us a tour of the facilities and different TV and radio studios. We met news anchors Osvaldo Corral and Nathaly Alcala and they talked to the students about their experiences in their careers. We also met Ana Raquel Bueno, environmental reporter; Raul Brindis and Pedro Reyes, popular radio hosts ; and Oscar De La Rosa, one of the members of the musical group “La Mafia”.

The students were very engaged in the activity and also very excited. Some students from Trojan TV made some videos and took pictures. Everyone, including the teachers, enjoyed the trip.

Memorial High Senior soccer sensation Emily Shines as starting kicker, leading Mavs to victory over Rayburn.

Pasadena Memorial (PMHS) senior soccer sensation Emily Chavez stepped up to the plate as the starting kicker last week against Sam Rayburn. During the game, Chavez scored two extra points and kicked a 27-yard field goal for the Mavericks, helping lead them to a 50-point victory over Sam Rayburn.

Open tryouts were held after PMHS’s starting kicker was sidelined due to an injury. Chavez took this opportunity to showcase her versatility and earned a spot on the team.

“I took it upon myself to put the extra effort in and see what I could do,” Chavez said.

Chavez humbly credits her success to her dedicated kicking coach and her soccer coach and parents, who have been sources of inspiration throughout this unique journey.
