(all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty)
• On Friday, June 6th, at approximately 1:36 AM, an Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1900 block of S 146 for an observed traffic violation. Upon contacting the driver, the Officer immediately detected an odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. The driver was shown to have a Felony warrant out of Galveston County for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. There were two other occupants in the vehicle. They were removed from the vehicle so the Officer could conduct a probable cause search. During the search, the Officer located a black purse in the front passenger seat, and inside the purse, the Officer found a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. The front seat passenger was taken into custody for possession of drug paraphernalia. The vehicle was released to the back seat passenger.
• On Friday, June 6th, at approximately 2:00 AM, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of S 16th for a vehicle in the ditch. Officers arrived and saw a white Jeep in the ditch, as described, with spinning wheels and the reverse lights illuminated. The driver and sole occupant exited the vehicle and was stumbling as he walked toward Officers. The driver had slurred speech, and he told Officers that he was at “The Moon,” where he consumed some alcoholic beverages before operating the vehicle. The driver refused to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. During an inventory of the vehicle, Officers located a loaded handgun in the center console. The HCDAO was contacted, and a charge of Felony Driving While Intoxicated – 3rd offense was accepted. The HCDAO declined to take the charge of Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.
• On Saturday, June 7th, at approximately 2:20 AM, an Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 3800 block of Bay Area for an observed traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver, the Officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. The Officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, and as he did, the Officer noticed the driver was unsteady on his feet. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol approximately one hour before being stopped. The driver declined to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. The HCDAO was contacted, and the charge of Felony Driving While Intoxicated – 3rd offense was accepted.
• On Wednesday, July 11th, at approximately 2:05 AM, Officers were dispatched to 702 S 146 in reference to a physical disturbance. Officers arrived and met with the 65-year-old wheelchair bound victim, who told Officers he had been assaulted by a female who was still on the property. Officers located the female suspect, who told Officers the victim was being rude and disrespectful to her. She said she did not assault him and that she was simply trying to “wheel him out of the room”. The female said she had not met the victim before today. After speaking with the suspect, the victim told Officers a male subject took the suspect and him to the Scottish Hotel, and they all were staying in a room on the second floor. A verbal argument ensued between the female and the male subject. The male subject left the room, and the female turned her anger towards the victim. The victim said the female pulled him out of the room while he was in his wheelchair. During this process, the female hit the victim twice in the face with a closed fist. Officers did observe a swollen red mark on the victim’s face and a scratch on his left armpit. The victim also had half of his toenail ripped off with visible bleeding. The clerk at the hotel witnessed the incident live on surveillance cameras and confirmed the account given by the victim. The HCDAO was contacted, and the Felony charge of Assault against an elderly disabled individual was accepted.
• On Wednesday, June 11th, at approximately 7:50 AM, Officers located a vehicle whose owner is known to have multiple outstanding Felony warrants. The vehicle was found at 11022 Deaf Smith, and Detectives confirmed the subject was at this location. Officers and Detectives contacted the subject in the front yard of this residence and placed him into custody for the multiple Felony warrants.
