LPPD Officer Nick’s perspective on Christmas is forever changed in the 12 Days of Christmas series.

12 Days of Christmas

Chapter 6: Officer Nick was very confused. He wondered how the children were so joyful even before the gifts were given to them. ā€œAre they not sad that they donā€™t have a Christmas tree or cool Christmas blow upā€™s outside?ā€ he thought to himself. But in fact, they were not! They were playing games and singing songs with their family. They were watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate. They were just enjoying the time they were able to spend together.

For the first time, Officer Nick realized that Christmas wasn’t only about gifts.

The Pasadena Police Department is Committed to a Safe and Joyful Holiday Season

With the Christmas holidays around the corner, the Pasadena Police Department is taking proactive steps to ensure our community can celebrate safely and responsibly.

We want to remind everyone of the dangers of celebratory gunfire and illegal fireworks. āš ļø While these activities might seem festive, they carry serious risks, including injuries, property damage, and even loss of life.

Safety is our top priority, and we are dedicating additional resources to keep our community protected:

ā€¢Increased patrol manpower to provide enhanced visibility and rapid response.
ā€¢The Pasadena Fire Marshal on duty to address firework-related incidents promptly.
ā€¢Drone technology will be utilized for aerial surveillance to monitor and address illegal activities.
ā€¢Twice as many call takers will be available to ensure reports are handled quickly and efficiently.

We encourage everyone to do their part. If you witness celebratory gunfire or illegal fireworks, report it immediately. Additionally, if youā€™ve experienced these issues in your neighborhood before, please let us know. Your reports help us focus patrols and resources where they are needed most.

Together, we can ensure a safe and joyful holiday season for everyone in Pasadena.

LPPD’s Officer Nick’s heartwarming act of kindness on Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas.

12 Days of Christmas

Chapter 5: Officer Nick then arrived at a small apartment where a young boy peered up at him with a shy smile. The boy had been bundled in a worn-out sweater, his eyes sparkling with joy. Officer Nick handed him a carefully wrapped box. “A toy train! Just like I wanted!” the boy exclaimed, his face lighting up EVEN MORE. Officer Nick’s heart swelled as he watched the boy hug the box to his chest, feeling a warmth that had nothing to do with the holiday lights twinkling around them or the giant Christmas tree at Five Points. Each door he knocked on, each smile he saw, filled him with a growing sense of joy. Something within him was starting to change.

LPPD Officer Nick’s 12 Days of Christmas is moving along as he learns the true meaning of love and family.

12 Days of Christmas

Chapter 4: Officer Nick continued on his route. He went to multiple other homes passing out gifts. As a well trained officer would do, he implemented his police tactics at every home he went to. When he arrived at a home, he would arrive quietly and observe to scope out any potential dangers before approaching. However, he didnā€™t find any dangers. Instead, he was able to see the families he was going to give gifts to sitting together in their living room or dining room. Some homes had Christmas trees and lights, some didnā€™t. But one thing stayed the same, he could see the family members enjoying their time together- laughing, playing games, and telling stories. You see, because of all of the overtime, Officer Nick never got to enjoy shared moments like these with his own family. He knew at this moment he needed to make a change.

PISD remembers Victoria “Vickie” Morgan’s legacy as Pasadena ISD’s first female board member is a vibrant tapestry of dedication, mentorship, and tireless advocacy for education. R.I.P.

Pasadena ISD Remembers Victoria ā€œVickieā€ Morgan: A Trailblazer and Advocate
Pasadena, TX ā€“ The Pasadena Independent School District is mourning the loss of a historic figure and beloved leader, Board Member Victoria ā€œVickieā€ Morgan, whose remarkable 39-year tenure left an indelible mark on our community.

Elected in 1986, Morgan broke barriers as the first woman to serve on the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees. From her beginnings as a homeroom mom at her three daughterā€™s elementary schools, she rose to become one of the districtā€™s most dedicated public servants, holding the Place 7 seat for nearly four decades.

During her 12 terms, Morgan helped the district achieve significant milestones. Under her guidance, the Board earned TASA/TASB Honor Board recognition four times, a testament to her commitment to excellence.

Spanning five decades, two centuries, and two millennia, Morganā€™s tenure was extraordinary. She worked alongside 23 fellow board members, collaborated with five superintendents, and cast pivotal votes to hire four of them. Over the years, she served as a board officer for 27 years, including eight terms as President, nine as Vice President, and five each as Secretary and Assistant Secretary.

A Visionary Leader for Education
Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell expressed the depth of the districtā€™s loss: ā€œOur hearts are broken. Vickie was the epitome of service and dedication, a model board member who championed countless programs that improved education for all students.ā€

Board President Casey Phelan echoed those sentiments, ā€œWhile we grieve her passing, we also celebrate her extraordinary lifeā€”a life defined by mentorship, advocacy, and a relentless focus on putting children first. Pasadena ISD is forever changed for the better because of her leadership.ā€

Former Superintendent Dr. Kirk Lewis said, ā€œVickieā€™s influence was both personal and professional. She was my friend and a driving force in so many programs and decisions throughout the years. She was consistently guided by her heart and her passion for doing what was right for each and every student. I will miss her words of wisdom. Pasadena ISD has lost an amazing champion.ā€

Morgan herself reflected on the evolution of education in a 2011 interview, ā€œIā€™ve seen a tremendous shift in how instruction is delivered, moving from traditional lectures to hands-on learning and incorporating technology to engage students more effectively.ā€

Her unwavering advocacy extended beyond academics. Morgan championed initiatives to promote student well-being, particularly efforts to raise awareness about bullying and fostering a safer, more inclusive environment for all children.

A Legacy That Endures
ā€œThere will never be another Vickie Morgan,ā€ Dr. Powell said. ā€œShe was truly in a league of her own. As we offer condolences to her family, we also grieve as her extended family in Pasadena ISD. She was a part of us, and her loss is immeasurable.ā€

Morganā€™s legacy is one of trailblazing leadership, passionate advocacy, and selfless service. Her impact will continue to resonate through the generations of students, educators, and community members she inspired. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Bill and her daughters, Stephanie and Cheri, and the entire Morgan family.

Find out what LPPD Officer Nick surprises the next lucky child with in Chapter 3 of the 12 Days of Christmas saga.

12 Days of Christmas

Chapter 3: Officer Nick, dressed in his Blue Santa suit, began his journey. He knocked on the first door. Inside, a little girl with wide, hopeful eyes answered. Her cheeks were rosy from the chill, and she gasped when she saw the officer holding a shiny red bike just for her. “Is this for me?” she asked, her voice full of wonder. Officer Nick nodded, and as she hugged the bike tightly, he felt a warmth spread through him. This was a feeling he had not felt before. ā€œThat was strange.ā€ He thought to himself. He shook it off and continued on about his route. ā€œJust 35 houses to goā€¦ā€ he sighed.

You won’t believe what happens when Officer Nick’s grumpiness meets the magic of the holiday season in La Porte’s 12 Days of Christmas story.

La Porte Police Department presents the second annual 12 Days of Christmas story. This short story was created to bring awareness to the Blue Santa Program. The Blue Santa program focuses on bringing hope and joy to families during the Christmas season. This program provides gifts for children who are residents of La Porte or La Porte ISD students.

ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”

Chapter 1: This Christmas story begun a long, long time ago in a small city by the water named ā€œLa Porteā€. Our story originates in the city police department, in the Patrol Division. Meet Officer Nick. Officer Nick is well known as the grumpy officer of the division. ā€œOut of sight, out of mindā€ is how most people handled him. That worked for the most part. However, during the holidays he was grumpier than ever. You see, during the holiday season, Ofc. Nick regularly picked up overtime to pay for his familyā€™s Christmas. Overpriced vacations, decorations, and gifts ā€“ all of that needed to be paid for somehow. ā€œI hate this time of yearā€ he sighed as he put on his duty belt for yet another 12-hour shift. To be continuedā€¦..

Brace yourselves Texans. The final exam heads your way this week, with online tests.

Next week we will be on a final exam schedule from Tuesday-Thursday. All students should bring their device and charger, as well as charge their tablets at home every night as all tests are online. Students with off periods should take special note of the schedule to determine which days they will need to come earlier or stay later than usual. For example, students with 7th period off might need to stay later than normal on Tuesday if they have a test in 6th period and need the whole time to finish it, but will be able to leave at 12:30 on Wednesday. Students should talk to the teachers of those subjects to determine if they will have a final or not. There are no exemptions for these finals.

La Porte Police Department hosts 2nd annual Shop with a Cop event

On Tuesday December 10th, La Porte Police Department (LPPD) hosted its 2nd annual ā€˜Shop with a Copā€™ event at their neighboring Deer Park Walmart. The program is a result of the joint partnership between the La Porte Police Officersā€™ Association, the La Porte Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and the law enforcement motorcycle club Blue Knights of Texas VII.

For this yearā€™s event, ā€˜Shop with a Copā€™ participants took ten local children shopping for various items on their wish list. The children were each selected from a program known as The Angel Tree. The Angel Tree, organized by LPPDā€™s Crime Victim Liaison Shaye Lister, is intended to help families who may need a little extra help for the holidays.

Before kicking off the shopping spree event, LPPD Chief of Police Scott Pullig welcomed the families, recognized the attending Walmart employees, and then expressed thanks to the Officers, jailers, and dispatchers who each partnered up with a child. Pullig also commended the La Porte Police Officers Association and the La Porte Police Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association for their generous contributions which made the entire event possible. At the eventā€™s conclusion, the children checked out at the cash registers, and the Blue Knights club treated families to hot chocolate, cookies, and treats.

Shop with a Cop is just one of the many ways LPPD strives to help their community embrace the Christmas season. If you have any questions regarding the Departmentā€™s various outreach programs, please contact the agency at 281-842-3123.

Luis, a thoughtful 5th grader, impressively donated his Respect contest prize to the Animal Shelter, helping strays find healing and loving homes.

šŸŒŸ A HUGE Thank You to Luis C. and the Arnold & Itkin Foundation!

Luis C., a 5th grader from Earnesteen Milstead Middle School, won 2nd place in the RESPECT contest and chose our shelter as the recipient of his $200 donation!

Luisā€™ generosity will directly help the strays we care for, ensuring they receive the medical care they need to recover and to find forever homes.

This annual contest, hosted by the Arnold & Itkin LLP Foundation, invites students to define the word “respect” and express it through words and art, and we couldn’t be more proud of Luis for his thoughtful entry.

Congratulations again, Luis! Youā€™re truly making a difference with your big heart!

When Ms. Tina found herself stranded with a flat tire, PPD Officer Turpinā€™s quick assistance not only resolved her predicament but also inspired a community with his exemplary dedication.

Take a moment to read about an awesome act of kindness from Ofc. M. Turpin!

During a stressful moment when a community member, Ms. Tina, got a flat tire, Officer Turpin stepped in to lend a helping hand. Touched by his actions, Ms. Tina wrote a heartfelt letter to our Chief, who couldnā€™t be prouder of Turpinā€™s willingness to go above and beyond.

Officers wear many hats and often do far more than what is required of them. This is a perfect example of true community service, setting an inspiring standard not only for our community but also for new officers learning the full scope of what it means to serve.

Way to go, Ofc. M. Turpin!

LPPD Focuses Efforts on Impaired Drivers
During the Holidays

During the Christmas and New Year holidays, the La Porte Police Department (LPPD) will participate in the Texas Department of Transportationā€™s (TxDOT) Impaired Driver Mobilization (IDM) program. The programā€™s enforcement period is from December 13, 2024, through January 1, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. During this period, officers on paid overtime will actively pursue those who chose to drive while impaired.

TxDOTā€™s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) campaigns are designed to reduce both motor vehicle collisions and the residual effects incurred by motorists. The programs have consistently been proven to reduce injuries, fatalities, and property damage along major thoroughfares and at high collision/high-density intersections. Residents are reminded to drive safely while taking comfort in knowing additional traffic enforcement officers are monitoring local roadways to increase safety. For more information on La Porte Police Departmentā€™s involvement in the Stateā€™s various S.T.E.P. programs, please contact LPPD at 281-842-3115 and follow us on Facebook at @LaPortePoliceDepartment.

He came to us with sarcoptic mange, a painful skin condition that has left him feeling scared. We’ve started his treatment on November 15th, and while his recent skin scrape came back negative, healing in the shelter is very tough for him.

Noah is on the Urgent List, and weā€™re afraid that if he doesn’t get out of the shelter, he wonā€™t have the chance to heal properly. Noah deserves so much more than this. He deserves to feel better and to know what it feels like to be loved.

Precinct 8 Deputy M. Self locked up a drunk driver with a past DWI warrant who was released on a $100 bond.

INTOXICATED DRIVER FOUND TO HAVE DWI WARRANT On November 10, 2024 at approximately 11:40 PM, Precinct 8 Deputy M. Self observed a vehicle with no headlights traveling below the speed limit. Deputy Self initiated a traffic stop in the 17800 block of El Camino Real. While speaking with the driver, Deputy Self detected multiple signs of intoxication and observed multiple beer bottles in the vehicle. The driver was identified as 25 year old Flavio Cesar Xon Tecum. Deputies administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and determined the driver was unable to operate a vehicle safely. Further investigation revealed Xon Tecumā€™s blood alcohol content was .198 and .209. A check of his information revealed Xon Tecum was arrested in June 2023 by Houston Police Department for Driving While Intoxicated and Fail to Stop and Give Information. Xon Tecum failed to appear for court and showed to have open warrants for both charges. The Harris County District Attorneyā€™s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Driving While Intoxicated. Xon Tecum was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where his bond was set at $100. Xon Tecum was later released on a General Order Bond.

Meet La Porte Police Department’s Blue Santa. Who tracks the naughty and nice, and spreads holiday cheer like never before.

This monthā€™s spotlight on a member is our one and only, Blue Santa!

Blue Santa has been a part of the La Porte Police Department since 2011. Blue Santa began as just an idea, many, many years ago. However, throughout the years the idea developed, and shortly after became a reality. December 2011 Blue Santa was dispatched to the City of La Porte and his duties officially began.

Blue Santa arrived just in time to receive this yearā€™s orders from Chief Pullig. His responsibilities include keeping track of the ā€œnaughty and niceā€ list, reading and receiving letters from kids, sleigh operation, and spreading Christmas spirit. As Christmas Day approaches Blue Santa, the La Porte Police Officers Association, and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association team up to tackle their biggest task of the year, distributing gifts to Blue Santa Program participants.

When heā€™s not working, Blue Santa enjoys caring for his reindeers, judging snowball fights between his elves, and hanging out with Mrs. Blue Santa by the fireplace.

Blue Santa has been an incredible asset to the La Porte Police Department and the La Porte Police Officersā€™ Association. His dedication to spreading joy has made an impact on many residents of The City of La Porte.

Thank you, Blue Santa, for all that you do!

LPPD Investigates Fatal Auto Pedestrian Collision

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the La Porte Police Department (LPPD) received a call for an auto-pedestrian collision in the approximate 3300 block of Underwood Road.

La Porte Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) units were quickly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was immediately discovered that the unidentified male was crossing the roadway and was struck by a single vehicle traveling southbound. The pedestrian was transported by air medical to a regional hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed the male pedestrian unlawfully entered the crosswalk, passing in front of a vehicle lawfully using the roadway. The driver of the vehicle was unable to see the pedestrian due to the time of morning and lighting conditions. When the collision occurred, the driver immediately stopped, called 911, and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are expected to be filed.

The LPPD Crash Reconstruction Team is conducting a full investigation, including the pending report from the Harris County Medical Examinerā€™s Office.

Ollie’s shaking in his kennel, nowhere to go and on the short list to the cold table of death. He’s your one free Christmas gift to the kids.

šŸ’” I shake in my kennel because Iā€™m so scared…
My name is Ollie and every day feels like a battle in the shelter. I tremble in my kennel, too terrified to even look up. The staff and volunteers have been kind to me, but the truth is, Iā€™m not sure how much longer I can hold on.
But when Iā€™m outside, I start to open up and feel something different. But itā€™s hard when all Iā€™ve ever known is fear and uncertainty. The shelter staff believes I just need someone who can show me a real home, a place where I can truly feel safe.
But Iā€™m running out of time. Iā€™m on the Urgent List now, and I donā€™t want to be forgotten. I just need someone to see me… to help me. Can you be the one who gives me the chance to feel loved?

PPD cadets are transforming their lives in just one week. It’s more than a uniform, it’s a new identity.

Cadets Complete Their First Week: Embracing the Uniform Lifestyle Last week marked the first week of training for the newest class of cadets at the Police Academyā€”a pivotal moment in their transition to law enforcement. This week is more than just training; itā€™s a shift in mindset, discipline, and identity. For these cadets, the transition began with shedding civilian clothes and stepping into uniformsā€”a powerful symbol of commitment, duty, and responsibility. Wearing the uniform is more than just a change in appearance; itā€™s a commitment to a new lifestyle, one rooted in integrity, sacrifice and the publicā€™s trust. This transformation is not just external but internal. The Academyā€™s rigorous curriculum introduces cadets to the complexities of law enforcement, the importance of teamwork, and the value of community engagement. The once-familiar outside world now looks differentā€”every scenario a potential call to action, every moment an opportunity to serve. The cadetsā€™ first week is just the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and adapting. As they stand together in uniform, they embrace the challenges ahead, ready to learn and uphold the values they now represent.

Video: Donā€™t let holiday shopping turn into a nightmare. PPD’s crucial safety tips that every savvy shopper must know this season.

šŸŽ„ Holiday Shopping Safety Tips from the Pasadena Police Department šŸŽ„

As the holiday season approaches, the Pasadena Police Department encourages everyone to prioritize safety while shopping. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind:

*Stay Alert: Be aware of your surroundings, especially in parking lots and crowded areas. Avoid distractions like using your phone.

*Secure Your Valuables: Keep purses, wallets, and shopping bags close to your body. Never leave them unattended in shopping carts or vehicles.

*Use Secure Payment Methods: Opt for credit cards over cash, and utilize contactless payment options when available.

*Shop on Trusted Websites: When shopping online, avoid using public Wi-Fi networks.

*Protect Your Packages: Arrange for deliveries when someone is home, or use secure pickup locations to prevent theft.

*Lock Your Car Doors: Always lock your vehicle, even if you’re stepping away for a moment. An unlocked car is an easy target for thieves.

By following these precautions, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday shopping experience.

Happy Holidays, Pasadena!

Iā€™m Pancho, and Iā€™d love to dance my way into your heart. Letā€™s laugh, have fun, and go on exciting adventures together! Whether itā€™s playing in the yard or cuddling under a blanket, I promise to keep you warm all winter long!
I have so much love to give because all I want in life is to be loved. Iā€™m potty trained (no accidents here!) and always ready to be the best boy I can be. I was owner surrendered through no fault of my own, and now Iā€™m feeling a bit stressed in the shelter environment.

Sasha, a CTE dedicated welding student, impresses everyone with her skills and spirit, proving that hard work and kindness shine bright.

Thank you Texas High School Welding Series for spotlighting Sasha, we are so proud of her!Ā
Meet Sashaly “Sasha” Davis, a remarkable student in the PMHS Welding program and the focus of this monthā€™s TXHSWS Student Spotlight!
Sashaly “Sasha” Davis shines as a remarkable young woman with an upbeat spirit and a dedication to everything she takes on. A full-time welding student at PMHS Welding, sheā€™s quick to learn and has risen through the ranks impressively. Her lively personality, combined with a natural ability to lead and support others, makes her a joy to work with.
Alongside her academic commitments, Sasha works full-time as part of the athletic training staff. She’s a familiar face in the summer and fall, spending long hours with the football team, assisting with their workouts and handling essential training responsibilities.
Sashaā€™s resilience and calmness in high-pressure situations were recently highlighted at a welding competition when she helped a fellow student who suffered a knee dislocation. Despite the challenging scenario, she listened to his guidance and managed to help relocate his knee, allowing him to recover quickly.
After graduation, Sasha plans to serve her country by enlisting in the U.S. Military, a goal she approaches with pride and purpose. It’s been an honor working with her, and with dedicated individuals like Sasha, I’m confident our nationā€™s future is in capable hands.

Nova got locked up hanging out at the park due to neglectful parents. Not only is her hair grey so is her live expectancy if she’s not saved soon.

But hey, donā€™t worry! Iā€™ve been working hard on being a good girlā€”Iā€™m friendly, playful, and I even know a few commands! Iā€™m ready to be the best companion youā€™ve been searching for!
The more I wait in this shelter, the more stressed I get. And now I’m on the Urgent List, so my chances of finding a home are getting smaller and smaller. Could YOU be the one to give me the forever home Iā€™ve been dreaming of?

Penelope in cell block A174405 is patiently hoping you see the sparkle behind her eyes before they are shut forever.

Hi, Iā€™m Penelope. I came into the shelter feeling so scared and alone. I didnā€™t know who to trust, and my heart was heavy with uncertainty. But after the shelter staff here worked with me, Iā€™ve opened up and become a total love bug!
