The Deer Park Police Department was honored by the TPCA – Texas Police Chiefs Association – Texas Accreditation Program Wednesday afternoon for being designated a Texas Best Practices Recognized Agency.
The Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary process where police agencies in Texas prove their compliance with 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices. These Best Practices were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service, the reduction of risk and the protection of individual’s rights.

Following historically low rates of theft among Hyundai vehicles, thefts began to spike in the summer 2022 in response to videos posted by car thieves on TikTok and other social media channels in what became known as the “Kia Challenge.”

In an inspiring display of collaboration between CTE programs at Pasadena High School Eagles, engineering students teamed up with culinary students to create something truly sweet and innovative! Using cutting-edge 3D printing technology, our budding engineers designed and produced custom cookie cutters, turning their digital designs into tangible tools. These cookie cutters were then passed on to us, where creativity flourished as they used them to craft delicious treats. This project exemplifies the power of teamwork and the endless possibilities when different programs come together. Here’s to the delicious treats of collaboration.

The Pasadena High School Eagles Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Bradley Jacob, is performing for guests at the Board Meeting. What a talented group of musicians!
On Saturday, the Police Department participated in the opening day ceremonies for the youth baseball association. School Resource Officer Yvonne Stanley represented the Department by throwing out the “first pitch,” signifying the start of the new season. Thank you to all the officers who helped make this event a success.

Congratulations to our Outdoor Education Practicum students from PMHS. They recently completed the Ducks Unlimited Ecology Conservation and Management certification course, with all of them passing their final exam. Also, good luck to our Pasadena Independent School District Outdoor Ed students that are competing at the 2024 Texas NASP State Tournament today and tomorrow. The State Tournament is only for Teams and Individuals who participated in the 2024 TX-NASP Virtual State Qualifying Tournament and were invited to advance to the 2024 State NASP® Bullseye and State NASP®/IBO 3D Tournaments. 
Our first Open House this past Saturday was a tremendous success, with a fantastic turnout. Officers and civilian staff welcomed and engaged with over 80 guests!
We sincerely thank all the divisions that participated and we recognize Ms. Alyssa and Sgt. Bruegger for their exceptional organization and hosting of the event.

The Pasadena Police Department will offer a women’s self-defense course beginning April 10, 2024. This is a four-day course, which will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm each night. (April 10, April 11, April 17, April 18) Ladies aged 14 and older are eligible to register.
R.A.D. provides effective options by teaching women to take an active role in their self-defense and psychological well-being. R.A.D. is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques.
The comprehensive self-defense course for women begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance while progressing to the basics of hands-on defensive training.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy Margison was dispatched to the 3100 block of Spencer Hwy in regards to a male subject protesting in front of a business. Further investigation revealed there were several videos shared on social media of the man protesting, one of which shows the subject making threats towards the business owner. Upon further investigation, the subject was identified as 29 year old Khahzjhahrahlee Zjhahwku Rahjeuwgah. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Harassment, and a warrant was issued for Rahjeuwah’s arrest.
On Sunday, March 24, 2024, Deputy Bullock was dispatched to the 3100 block of Spencer Hwy after a reporting witness observed Rahjeuwgah return to the location. Rahjeuwgah was located and arrested for the warrant. Deputy Bullock conducted a search incident to arrest and located 4 firearms, a grenade replica, several loaded magazines and a tactical vest.

REPEAT OFFENDER ARRESTED IN PASADENA
On December 13, 2023, Precinct 8 Deputy Conway was dispatched to a hit and run call. Deputy Conway met with the victim who stated he was traveling in the 7600 block of the E Sam Houston Tollway when he was struck by another vehicle. The at-fault vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. The victim followed the suspect and was able to obtain a license plate. Upon further investigation, the suspect was positively identified as 51 year old John Wylie Groover and a warrant for Fail to Stop and Give Information was issued for his arrest.
On January 11, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy Morgan initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for fail to signal in the 11600 block of the Gulf Freeway. The driver was identified as John Wylie Groover. A check of his information revealed the open warrant for Fail to Stop and Give Information from December 2023. Deputy Morgan directed Groover to step out of the vehicle. Groover failed to comply and fled the scene. The vehicle accelerated to speeds over 100 MPH while running several stop signs and red lights. The pursuit continued for approximately 5 miles before the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a building in the 900 block of Pennsylvania St. A search of the vehicle yielded .4 grams of crack cocaine. Groover was transported to the hospital and additional warrants for Evading/Arrest Detention with Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance were filed. Charges for Criminal Mischief were declined by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
On March 18, 2024, Groover was arrested by Pasadena Police Department for an unrelated case through their agency and the 3 open warrants. Groover’s bonds were set at $100 for Fail to Stop and Give Information, $20,000 for Evading and $5,000 for Possession of Controlled Substance.

Congratulations to Ms. Jasmine Hooker, Dobie High School’s Teacher of the Year! Ms. Hooker leads our culinary department in countless ways. In the last six years, she has grown our program from just three classes to now over 700 students! Her culinary students proudly represent the JFD Culinary Department by catering numerous events throughout the school year, including the Texas Invitational Tournament, PISD board meetings, district athletic banquets, the JFD Hall of Honor, teacher treats, and so much more! Under her leadership, students are recognized throughout the district for both their professionalism and culinary abilities.
Chief Wright extended a warm welcome to families, friends, and colleagues to celebrate the promotion of two sergeants. They are described as: hard workers, good communicators, and men of virtue.
Both have participated in several part-time (collateral) assignments in addition to successfully carrying out their routine daily duties. Collateral assignments offer numerous benefits to the police department and the community and provide a sense of accomplishment and service to the officers who choose to participate.
Chief Wright is confident they will continue to promote and protect a healthy work environment while staying positive and solution oriented.

Please see this important ‼ #closure ‼ information from Harris County Toll Road Authority – HCTRA It’s happening this weekend {March 22-25}, late Friday night to early Monday morning.
There will be a total closure of the Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge main lanes beginning Friday, March 22 at 10:00 p.m. to Monday, March 25 at 5:00 a.m.
Detour:
• Drivers traveling southbound on the Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge will be detoured to take the Jacintoport Blvd exit ramp. Drivers are encouraged to utilize I-10 to access crossings.
• Drivers traveling northbound on the Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge will be detoured to take the SH-225 exit ramp.
Contractor crews will be pouring concrete on a critical component of the structural support columns. This allows crews to quickly and efficiently maneuver the large concrete and pouring trucks, while not jeopardizing the safety of the traveling public.
Drivers should expect delays when traveling this section of the tollway. All closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency work, or other events. Don’t forget to visit houstontranstar.org to plan your route.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE LEADS TO THEFT OF FUEL ARREST
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at approximately 12:35 AM, Precinct 8 Sergeant Covey with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was dispatched to the 8500 block of Galveston Rd in reference to a possible theft of fuel call. The witness observed a suspicious vehicle parked near the underground fuel tanks at an Exxon while the business was closed. Sergeant Covey located the vehicle and observed it display a fictitious license plate. As Sergeant Covey approached the vehicle, the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The passenger was detained and later identified as 41 year old Giovani Guerra-Soto. Upon further observation, the vehicle contained three tanks attached to hydraulic pumps, PVC pipe and other materials used to pump the fuel. The vehicle had an opening in the floorboard and was parked directly over the diesel fuel tank. Further investigation revealed over 600 gallons of diesel fuel was taken.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for felony Theft. Guerra-Soto was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center and was later released with a bond set $7,500. At the time of arrest, it was noted Guerra-Soto was deported in August 2023.

Congratulations to 10th grade culinary arts student Edgar P. from CTHS Pasadena ISD who won his competition titled “Amuse Me” at the Texas ProStart Invitational in Waco, Texas. He was tasked with making a “fine dining one-bite appetizer” in just 30 minutes. His creation was a seared bay scallop and ginger carrot puree with a white wine garlic butter sauce. We are super proud of Edgar and his instructors that prepared him for this difficult challenge.
As we celebrate Women’s History Month and recognize women who have contributed to our history, culture, and society, we highlight our highest-ranking female officer, Lt. Bowman, for her dedication and leadership to the Pasadena Police Department.
Lt. Bowman began her career at the Pasadena Police Department in 2009 after moving to Texas from Pennsylvania. Throughout her tenure at Pasadena P.D., she has accomplished numerous things in many divisions and is beginning her new assignment to the Personnel and Training Division, where she will oversee the academy and range staff.
As she transitions to her new academy role, her primary focus will be recruiting, hiring, and training. With the knowledge and training she’s obtained from years of experience in law enforcement and graduating from the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Impact Leadership Program, she will launch our latest employee retention endeavor, the Resiliency and Mentorship Program (R.A.M.P.). R.A.M.P. will strive to focus on resiliency and professional growth and will benefit nearly 400 police and civilian personnel who protect and serve our community.
Lt. Bowman will be attending our Open House this Saturday at the Police Academy and looks forward to seeing everyone there!

Dobie High School‘s Cheyanne Bravo successfully showcased her Charolais Cross steer at the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Placing 12th out of 66 contestants in her class, she earned an auction sale slot, ensuring a minimum guaranteed amount of $8500 with the potential for additional premium funds generated through the auction proceeds. Cheyanne obtained her steer through participation in the Houston calf scramble in 2023, where she not only received the hard luck award but also a certificate toward her animal. Her dedicated efforts in raising the animal over the past 9 months have yielded commendable results. Notably, this marks Dobie FFA’s inaugural participation in the HLSR steer auction, further underscoring the significance of this achievement!

We were delighted to have the Pasadena Historical Society’s quarterly membership meeting at the Museum. The Historical Society Board members welcomed over 40 attendees. Their guest speaker, Mr. Rick Guerrrero – Director of the Pasadena Economic Development Corporation, shared all the wonderful projects that are happening with his Department, in Pasadena. On Friday, March 8, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputies with the assistance of Precinct 2 Special Operations Unit conducted a warrant service in the 15300 block of the Gulf Freeway. Through investigation, it was determined the wanted subject was residing at this location. Deputies made contact at the residence and detained a male and a female. The female was identified as 33 year old Liana Mae Golden and the male was identified as 27 year old Jonathan Ryan Williams. A check of Golden’s information confirmed she had an open warrant through Harris County Sheriff’s Office. As Golden was placed in custody, Deputies observed narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain view. Deputies conducted a search and recovered 19.26 grams of methamphetamine, 1.54 grams of Xanax, 6.41 grams of Adderall, 128.5 grams of a white powdery substance, 2.74 grams of marijuana, 3.06 grams of Soma pills, 5.1 grams of pressed white powder, 5 checks, and 3 social security cards. Deputies later confirmed the social security cards and checks found did not belong to either subject.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Possession with Intent to Deliver on both subjects. They were transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where Williams’s bond was set at $1,000 and Golden’s bond was set at $15,000.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at approximately 1:07 AM, Precinct 8 Deputy A. Self with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was providing traffic control for a traffic hazard when a passing vehicle failed to maintain a single lane and nearly struck Deputy Gutierrez’s patrol vehicle. Deputy Self attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving recklessly while failing to maintain a single lane multiple times and nearly striking a concrete barrier and other vehicles. Responding units were able to successfully deploy spike strips near Wallisville Rd. The vehicle continued traveling northbound and became disabled at Beltway 8 and Hwy 90. The driver was apprehended and identified as 41 year old Eugenia Letitia Shepherd. While speaking with Shepherd, Deputy Self detected multiple signs of intoxication. Deputy Self administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and determined the driver was unable to operate a vehicle safely. Deputy Self proceeded to conduct a search of the vehicle and recovered a firearm. Shepherd was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where an intoxilyzer test was administered. The results revealed Shepherd’s alcohol concentration was over the legal limit. A further check of Shepherd’s information revealed a prior DWI conviction.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle, Driving While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, and Unlawful Carry of Weapon. Shepherd’s bonds were set at $10,200 total.
Electrical and welding students from CTHS Pasadena ISD have arrived in Kissimmee, Florida for the ABC National Craft Championships. Today is registration day followed by a written exam and site orientation then opening sessions and reception later tonight. Tomorrow is the BIG day and we wish all of the competitors the best of luck during their events. Thank you to Construction and Maintenance Education Foundation, ISC Constructors LLC, Burns & McDonnell , and Performance Contractors, Inc. for sponsoring these students to represent their companies.

As the cadets advance into their 4th week at the police academy, they will persist in delving into the intricacies of the Penal Code under the guidance of Officer J. Garrett. This phase of the academy proves to be meticulous, requiring cadets to navigate through extensive pages of Texas law.
Although every academy instructor exhibits profound expertise and confidence, this segment calls for an instructor’s consistent patience and keen attention to detail. Officer J. Garrett, an Army Veteran with nearly a decade of service at the Pasadena Police Department, is the dedicated individual leading this phase.
Having previously served as a Field Training Officer, SRT member, and Honor Guard member during night shift patrol, Officer Garrett brings a wealth of experience to the academy. As an active SWAT member, he has been an integral part of the academy’s instructional team since 2021.
Officer Garrett’s commitment extends beyond the classroom; he not only imparts knowledge in various classes but actively participates in the cadets’ physical training and defensive tactics. We are grateful for Officer Garrett’s dedication as he mentors cadets across multiple facets throughout their police academy journey.

The #EndTheStreakTX campaign launched by the Deer Park Police Department aims to raise awareness of the high number of traffic fatalities in the state of Texas. The campaign highlights the fact that there hasn’t been a single day without a traffic fatality in Texas since November 7, 2000, urging drivers to be more cautious on the roads. By sharing statistics and promoting safe driving practices, the Deer Park Police Department hopes to reduce the number of traffic accidents and ultimately end the streak of daily fatalities on Texas roads. The campaign serves as a reminder for drivers to prioritize safety and be mindful of their actions while behind the wheel to prevent unnecessary tragedies.

Cristina Womack, President of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, is a distinguished leader and servant of the Pasadena community. Despite professional recognition and corporate success, Cristina’s heart for community transformation and decade of volunteer service prior led her to her current position of ten years. Cristina is a graduate of Sam Houston State University and US Chamber Institute of Organizational Management, and she remains committed to consistent improvement and growth.
Her personal vision, “to honor God and empower others to reach their greatest potential” is her guiding principle that drives her goals and ambitions. It is the middle of competition season for most CTE programs. Here we have a behind the scenes glimpse of CTHS Pasadena ISD Construction students preparing for the Skills USA State Conference at the end of the month.
For upcoming holiday events, the La Porte Police Department (LPPD) will participate in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) program thanks to a grant received from TxDOT.
The targeted waves of enforcement will include
• Spring Break (March 7– March 24, 2024),
• Independence Day (June 21 – July 7, 2024), and
• Labor Day (August 16 – September 2, 2024).
With this grant, additional LPPD officers will be deployed during each of these holiday periods on an overtime basis, to watch for impaired drivers on local roadways. Anyone operating a vehicle and found to be intoxicated will be arrested. Suspected intoxicated drivers who refuse to take a breath test will be the subject of a search warrant and have their blood drawn for blood alcohol level testing.
All of TXDOT’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) campaigns are designed to reduce both motor vehicle accidents and the residual effects incurred by impaired motorists. The programs have consistently been proven to reduce injuries, fatalities, and property damage along major thoroughfares and at high collision/high-density intersections.
Residents are reminded to drive safely and while taking comfort in knowing additional traffic enforcement officers are monitoring local roadways. On Saturday, March 2, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy K. Peters with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 1060 block of Edgebrook Dr on a vehicle displaying an unreadable temporary permit. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated to a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Redford St and proceeded to drive in circles in the parking lot with no regard for the safety of others. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop and the driver continued to evade on foot. Deputy Peters gave chase and utilized his Taser to safely subdue the suspect. The suspect was identified as 47 year old Desmond Oneal Brown. A check of Brown’s information revealed an extensive criminal history. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle incident to arrest and located 3.5 grams of marijuana and bags containing white powdery residue.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted felony Evading Arrest/Detention in Vehicle. Brown was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where his bond was set at $5,000.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Carl Feazle! 🏆🏈🎽
Carl Feazle’s high school career as a standout athlete began with a varsity spot on the Pasadena High School football team in 1938. Notably, he earned the nickname “The Pride of Pasadena” during his senior year, showcasing dynamic running skills and leading the team to newfound success. Feazle’s impact was undeniable, contributing significantly to his team’s points and earning recognition as a formidable defensive player. His 1940 season featured standout performances, including a six-touchdown game and a dominant showing in the district championship victory. Feazle received many prestigious accolades, including All-State and All-Southeast Texas honors. Beyond football, he demonstrated athletic versatility in track and leadership as president of his senior class. Following graduation, Feazle briefly played football for Texas A&M, served in the navy during World War II, and remained active in his community until his passing in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of athletic excellence and service.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Chris Tremie! 🏆⚾🧢🌟
Chris Tremie, a standout behind the plate at South Houston High School, contributed to the team’s renowned status in Pasadena ISD history and played a pivotal role in American Legion Post 490’s state title victory. His impressive senior year in 1988 led the Trojans to the UIL playoffs with notable stats, earning him All-Greater Houston and all-state honors. Drafted by the Houston Astros, Tremie chose collegiate baseball at the University of Houston, excelling as a starter throughout his four-year tenure. Post-college, he embarked on a 14-year, 17-team journey in professional baseball, showcasing exceptional defensive skills as a catcher and gaining a reputation for mentoring others. Retiring as a player in 2005, Tremie transitioned into successful managerial roles, achieving Eastern League and International League titles. Currently, he serves as the minor-league field coordinator for the Cincinnati Reds, actively contributing his knowledge and expertise to aspiring players within the organization.

On Friday, March 1, 2024, Precinct 8 Deputy Morgan with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was on patrol when he heard an auto theft call go out on the Houston Police radio channel that occurred at Texas Auto Dealership at 16200 Hwy 3. Shortly after the call was dispatched, Deputy Morgan observed a Jeep SRT displaying a “Texas Auto” tag traveling at a high rate of speed in the 13800 block of the Gulf Freeway. Deputy Morgan attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. Responding units were able to successfully deploy spike strips near Monroe Rd. The vehicle continued traveling northbound and became disabled at the intersection of Berkley St and Kimble St where the driver continued to evade on foot. The suspect was apprehended and identified as 18 year old Adrian Enrique Alarcon.
Deputy Morgan contacted the owner of Texas Auto who was able to pull up video footage of Alarcon and several other subjects breaking into the dealership. Further investigation revealed six vehicles were stolen.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted several felony charges for Burglary of Building, Auto Theft and Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle. Alarcon was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where his bonds were set at a total of $50,000.
2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Matt Wingo! 🏆🏈🎽
Matt Wingo, a versatile star at Dobie High School, earned recognition for his football prowess in multiple positions, showcasing skills in running, tackling, and kicking. His junior year in 1985 contributed to Dobie’s 12-1 record and regional semifinals appearance, with first-team all-district honors as a linebacker and punter. Wingo’s effectiveness as a running back challenged defensive backs, and his track achievements in discus and shot put drew college recruiters’ attention. Transitioning to Texas Tech, he became one of the university’s most prolific tacklers, accumulating 385 tackles over four years, leading the team to All-American Bowl victory, and receiving leadership awards. Last year, Wingo was inducted into the Red Raiders’ Athletics Hall of Fame, capping off a celebrated career that included pursuing a professional football stint with the Denver Broncos.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Amanda Nguyen! 🏆🥎🏐
Amanda Nguyen’s athletic journey began at Dobie High School, showcasing her prowess in softball and volleyball. As a key player at second base, she played a pivotal role in securing four consecutive playoff appearances, earning first-team all-district recognition in her junior and senior years and statewide acclaim as an all-state athlete. Transitioning to West Point, Nguyen wrote records, earned All-Patriot League honors each year, and led the team to a memorable Patriot League championship and NCAA tournament berth in her junior season. Graduating as one of the most decorated athletes in school history, Nguyen continued her academic pursuits with an MBA at the University of Texas at Austin and now serves as an admissions officer for the US Military Academy.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Wesley Speights! 🏆🏈🎽🩺
Wesley Speights began his sports training journey as the team manager at South Houston Intermediate, later transitioning to football as a kicker at South Houston High. Under the mentorship of coaches Robinson and Perry, he became a student trainer, Houston Independent School District sideline assistant, and part-time trainer for the Rice Owls. Speights made history as Abilene Christian University’s first full-time professional trainer, with notable achievements, including a bowl game victory in 1976, leading to induction into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame. Internationally, he served as the sports trainer for the USA Junior Track and Field Team in 1980, followed by diverse roles in Houston, catering to NBA teams, ice hockey and soccer teams, tennis luminaires, and even partnering with Cirque De Soleil. Retiring in 2019 after a remarkable 54-year career, Speights leaves behind a legacy defined by professionalism, versatility, and unwavering dedication to the athletes he served.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Joan Walker Propp! 🏆🎽👟
Known affectionately as Coach Walker by her athletes, she dedicated 34 years to coaching within Pasadena ISD, starting her career at South Houston High School. At Thompson Intermediate, she achieved success with district titles for seventh and eighth-grade girls teams, simultaneously leading Dobie High School’s girls track team to district championship victories. Coach Walker spent 25 impactful years at Sam Rayburn High School, molding champions in cross country and track, earning accolades such as the Secondary Physical Educator of the Year in 1998. Her contributions were further recognized with the Pasadena ISD Teacher of the Year award in 2005 and a Region 4 finalist position. Beyond coaching, Coach Walker’s legacy includes having the top girls performer award at the Brown Relays named in her honor and being a three-time veteran of the Boston Marathon.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Ruben Martinez! 🏆🏈⚾
Ruben Martinez’s journey into football began in the seventh grade at Queens Intermediate, leading into a varsity career at Pasadena High School where he earned three varsity football letters. In 1995, as a junior, Martinez secured the fourth spot statewide in 5A rushing in 1996. Martinez’s stellar performances earned him the district’s most valuable player title, and he led the Eagles to the playoffs in both seasons, the only appearances in 53 years. Martinez’s athletic prowess extended to baseball, earning honors as a pitcher and a shortstop. He additionally excelled academically, graduating in the top six percent of his class with a 4.2 GPA. After high school, he pursued baseball at Wharton Junior College and Viladecans in Spain.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Billy Hale! 🏆

Billy Hale, during his time at Pasadena High School, played a vital role in propelling the Eagles to a state championship, earning all-district honors as the team’s rushing leader in his senior year. Hale then continued his football journey at Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi. When Del Mar discontinued its football program, fate led him to Rice University, where he earned a starting position as the Owls’ wingback. Throughout his tenure, Hale’s versatility was evident as he transitioned seamlessly between positions, receiving high praise and being hailed as the best defensive back in two decades. Nicknamed “Little Hard Rock” for his resilient playstyle, Hale’s legacy extended beyond football, showcasing his talents as the Owl Baseball Team’s starting shortstop. His dedication to Rice University was recognized in 2008 with the Distinguished Owl Club Award.

2024 Hall of Fame inductee spotlight: Donnie Brogna! 🏆🏈⚾🎽
Donnie Brogna was a standout athlete at South Houston High School, excelling in football, track, and baseball. Renowned for his versatility on the football field, he transitioned to quarterback in his senior year, leading the Trojans to their first postseason appearance in 1967. His exceptional performance earned him recognition as the Houston Chronicle’s “Back of the Week” for the second time that season. Beyond football, Brogna secured regional titles and district honors in track and baseball. Continuing his athletic journey at Rice University on a baseball scholarship, Brogna made significant contributions as a pitcher and outfielder. Even in retirement, he found success in golf, receiving multiple holes-in-one.
This past weekend our Speech and Debate team competed at the East Texas National Speech and Debate Districts tournament. This tournament is to qualify for the national tournament that is being held this summer at Des Moines, Iowa! Only the top 3 finalists at this tournament get to qualify for the NSDA tournament and gladly our longhorns pulled through and Dobie got some NSDA Qualifications!

Carl Feazle’s high school career as a standout athlete began with a varsity spot on the Pasadena High School football team in 1938. Notably, he earned the nickname “The Pride of Pasadena” during his senior year, showcasing dynamic running skills and leading the team to newfound success. Feazle’s impact was undeniable, contributing significantly to his team’s points and earning recognition as a formidable defensive player. His 1940 season featured standout performances, including a six-touchdown game and a dominant showing in the district championship victory. Feazle received many prestigious accolades, including All-State and All-Southeast Texas honors. Beyond football, he demonstrated athletic versatility in track and leadership as president of his senior class. Following graduation, Feazle briefly played football for Texas A&M, served in the navy during World War II, and remained active in his community until his passing in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of athletic excellence and service.

Al Campo’s athletic journey started with success in basketball at Pasadena, followed by an outstanding senior year on the baseball diamond, earning all-district honors and boasting a remarkable .410 batting average. At the University of Houston, he excelled as a shortstop, achieving a notable .361 batting average his senior year. Transitioning to coaching, Campo led Sam Rayburn’s baseball teams to championships in 1977, 1984, and 1985, making it to the state tournament in the latter year. Despite falling short in the state title game, he was recognized as the All-Greater Houston coach of the year. Campo later served as the head football coach at South Houston High from 2001-2006, leaving a lasting legacy.

We are thrilled that our talented Agriculture Mechanics students have achieved a remarkable milestone at the Austin Agriculture Mechanics Show. In their debut competition, they not only participated but also won blue ribbons for both of their projects – the Agri Gate and the Hay Bin. This achievement is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and dedication to excellence in agricultural mechanics.
But that’s not all! Our students also showcased their skills in the Skills Test, where they performed incredibly well in welding, further demonstrating their technical prowess.
Let’s give a big GO EAGLES! to our students for their outstanding achievements. Their success at the Austin Rodeo highlights the bright future of agriculture and mechanics, and we are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. Congratulations to our brilliant Ag Mechanics team!

Our beautiful girl Sunni recently went on a Doggie Date. Check out what her lucky dater had to say:
“I don’t know how Sunni isn’t adopted yet! She is one of the sweetest and most evenly tempered dogs I’ve met! We spent most of Friday with Sunni and she didn’t bark once!
We took Sunni to the park where she played with my 2 girls and loved them both. While she was at first hesitant with my 3-year-old, she quickly warmed up to her and would go over for pets and hugs!
At the park, Sunni was friendly the entire time. She had other dogs, children, and adults walk past her and she mostly paid no attention or let them pet her. She was a little hesitant getting in my car at first, but she sat and laid down, and was a perfect car rider.
Sunni is a wonderful, sweet, and loving dog, and she’d be an amazing companion to anyone!”

Rosa came to us in the Fall of 2023 as an intern while she was completing her degree at University of Houston-Clear Lake. Next Thursday night, from 6-8, on the San Jacinto College Central Campus – LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, and Technology (7901 Fairmont) is a Mind Trekkers Family night – and evening of STEM activities for the whole family. We have over 100 experiments and demonstrations to engage everyone in the wonder that is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This is a carnival – and the fun is in the learning. There is no charge to attend. Industry sponsors and San Jac volunteers make this event happen for our community.
During the day, we host 5,000 sixth graders – but Family Night is all about the family and the community.

We want to celebrate two significant milestones involving Detective Cooper and Detective Phelan. Today is their 25th year as police officers with the Pasadena Police Department. Both were classmates in the 49th police academy and graduated in 1999.
After attending college, Detective Cooper joined the United States Coast Guard and served in multiple Enforcement Operations. Upon graduating from the police academy, he worked both day and night shift patrol, and in January 2006, he was assigned to the Burglary and Theft Unit. In 2017, Detective Cooper transferred to Violent Crimes and is currently attached to the ATF Crime Gun Strike Force as a Task Force Officer.
Detective Phelan actively served in the United States Marine Corps prior to attending the police academy. He also worked day and night shift patrol before being assigned to the Juvenile Investigations Division. After leaving this assignment, he served as a canine handler with two partners, Eiko and Rambo. Upon retiring his last K9, he was reassigned to the Family Violence Unit. Detective Phelan proudly served on the department’s Honor Guard team and currently serves on the Crisis Negotiation Team.
We thank both Detectives for their 25 years of service to the Pasadena Police Department and the City of Pasadena!

On February 29, 2024 at around 2:30 PM CST, our agency was notified that Noah Johnson had been located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was being evaluated by medical personnel in that city. His mother, Kamilah Johnson, was taken into custody by the Minneapolis Police Department on an active arrest warrant filed by this agency for a felony charge of Child Endangerment, which was filed in the 185th District Court here in Harris County.
On February 8, 2024, an Amber Alert was issued in the Houston area, which was later expanded to a statewide alert, in an attempt to locate Noah. Amber Alerts were later issued in the states of Missouri and Minnesota over the course of the last three weeks as new information on Noah’s possible whereabouts was obtained.
At this time, we can report that Noah is safe and is getting the medical attention he desperately needs. It is unknown at this time if or when he will be brought back to Houston. In addition, Kamilah Johnson is currently in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department awaiting the extradition process back to Harris County.
We would like to thank the many local, state and federal partners who assisted over the last 3 weeks in locating Noah. These partners include:

• Kansas City, Missouri Violent Crimes Task Force
• Minneapolis, Minnesota Police Department

On Monday, February 26, 2024 at approximately 7:57 PM, Precinct 8 Sergeant Williams with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office was working in an off-duty capacity in the Bay Forest subdivision when he observed a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood. The vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle involved in recent mail thefts in the area. Deputy Glover was dispatched to assist Sergeant Williams and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for multiple traffic infractions. Upon contact with the vehicle, Deputy Glover detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver was identified as 56 year old Kevin Foster Quesenberry and the passenger was identified as Laura Ginez. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed the female passenger provided a false name and was identified as 32 year old Taylor Raquel Svede. Svede was further identified as the mail theft suspect captured on video surveillance. A check of Svede’s information revealed an open felony warrant for Possession of Controlled Substance through Harris County Sheriff’s Office and a warrant through Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. Quesenberry was found to be in possession of a key used to manipulate mailbox locks.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted Possession of Criminal Instrument on Quesenberry with a bond set at $100. Svede was charged with Fail to ID to a Peace Officer with a bond set at $250. Houston Police Department is looking into whether these suspects are responsible for other open mail theft cases.
👯♀️🌟✨Our Dobie Lariaettes competed the past 2 weekends and came home with many awards! From the Ascension Dance Competition they left with multiple 1st and 2nd place awards, as well as Grand Champion Runner Up Team. This past weekend at the American Dance and Drill Team Competition team and officers won Gold Best Overall for their dances. Lizette Gonzalez was awarded 4th Runner up for her solo and Frida Monreal was awarded 2nd runner up for her solo. Way to go ladies! #dobiepride
This morning, Pasadena Diamond Level members participated in the very first Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Leader Insights Breakfast. Pasadena Police Chief J. Wright was very grateful to have been chosen as the guest of honor and speak at the breakfast. The Leader Insight Breakfast served as a valuable platform for business members and influential leaders to foster connections and engage in discussions related to local insights and initiatives.
Chief J. Wright emphasized his appreciation for the ones that served before us fighting crime and providing incredible service to the public. As we honor our traditions, we continue to evolve and grow while prioritizing safety, service, and the resilience of our great staff here at the Department.
These core values are supported by major projects that are currently unfolding in the Department. The newly created Digital Intelligence Unit supports technological advancement and consists of a Real Time Crime Center with enhanced crime analysis capabilities. Pasadena Police Department’s Community Improvement Coalition addresses complex issues to implement long-term problem-solving solutions for each unique circumstance. As we prioritize safety and service to the community, internal focus is also crucial. Chief J. Wright actively seeks to enhance the well-being of PD employees through a new Resiliency And Mentoring Program (RAMP), incorporating overall wellness that supports mental, physical, and financial health, as well as mentorship and career development for every Pasadena Police Department employee.

ROAD RAGE CALL LEADS TO ARREST
On Wednesday, February 14, 2023 at approximately 4:03 PM, Precinct 8 Deputy Langley with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office responded to the 5700 block of Underwood in reference to a road rage incident. Deputy Langley arrived and met with the victim who stated he was traveling southbound on Red Bluff Rd at Genoa Red Bluff Rd when a driver pulled up next to him and displayed an offensive hand gesture. The suspect continued to follow the victim and both stopped at a red light at the intersection of Red Bluff Rd and Underwood Rd. While stopped at the light, the suspect exited his vehicle and reached inside the victim’s passenger window displaying a knife. The suspect proceeded to damage the exterior of the victim’s vehicle with the knife before driving off and pulling into a jobsite in the 5700 block of Underwood Rd. Deputy Langley located the suspect and identified him as 41 year old Juan Carlos Flores.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Flores was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center where his bond was set at $15,000.

Constable Sandlin hosted a promotional ceremony this afternoon to formally recognize Deputy Alex Peters, who is being promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Peters joined the department in 2018 and has been a valued member of our District Patrol Division ever since. We wish her well as she now transitions into a supervisor role. Rayburn’s Black Student Association recently commemorated Black History Month with a field trip to the African American Library at the Gregory School in Fourth Ward. Fourth Ward is Houston’s Historic Freedmen’s Town and prior to being a library, the Gregory School was an elementary school opened by the Freedmen’s Bureau. Students enjoyed a great day of immersing themselves in the rich Black history of Houston.

Chief J. Wright and the Pasadena Police Department’s Community Services Division had the privilege of visiting several bilingual and English kindergarten classes at Kruse Elementary.
Students could barely contain their excitement as they were gifted with Western-style hats to wear to celebrate Go Texan Day while books were being read to them. Thank you, Kruse Elementary, for inviting us to spend time with students to read them some of their favorite books!
